Statement from Hazard ARH Regarding Overnight Lockdown

Hazard ARH would like to thank Perry County Emergency Management, the Perry County 911 Center, the Hazard Police Department, Kentucky State Police, the Perry County Sheriff’s Office, the Hazard Fire Department, and the Perry County Ambulance Service for their immediate attention and quick response to a 911 call from a community member, which resulted in a temporary lockdown at the medical center overnight.

While there were unsubstantiated reports of a possible threat, at no time was there a gunman present and no shots were fired within the hospital. After a thorough investigation, authorities gave the all-clear and the lockdown was lifted.

Hazard ARH has a long-standing practice of taking all threats seriously to ensure the safety of our staff, patients, and visitors. As a precaution, we initiate a lockdown until proper authorities can investigate and confirm there is no danger. This is exactly what occurred last night.

We also applaud our staff for the professionalism they demonstrated during this situation, following the extensive training they regularly receive to protect themselves, their patients, and everyone inside our facility. Healthcare workers face the unexpected every day, and we are grateful for their dedication and commitment to caring for our community.

❤️ February is Heart Month!
The ARH team of heart doctors and APRNs wants you to remember that taking care of your heart matters — not just this month, but every day of the year.
Megan Lewis, APRN, with the Hazard ARH Cardiology team at the Medical Mall, encourages everyone to “know your numbers” this Heart Month. One of the most important numbers to track is your blood pressure — a healthy range is around 120/80 or lower.
Simple habits like eating well, staying active, managing stress, limiting salt, and taking medications as prescribed can help protect your heart. Checking your numbers regularly helps you stay in control of your heart health. Your heart deserves attention now so you can live a long, happy, and healthy life.
If you’re experiencing heart concerns, we’re here for you. Schedule an appointment with Megan Lewis, APRN by calling 606-487-7000.
Your heart matters — today and every day. ❤️ Learn more at arh.org/cardiology
