Kenneth Sparks, a lifelong resident of Madison County, was born on July 23, 1937 to the late Viola and Dillon Sparks. He lived a life rooted in hard work, family, and simple joys, leaving behind a legacy of love and quiet strength.

Kenneth married the love of his life, Dorothy, on May 23, 1960. Together, they built a life centered on family, faith, and devotion, sharing many years of marriage and memories.

His house was often filled with laughter and life, welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren who gathered there regularly. When the house grew full and lively, Kenneth could often be found retreating to his bedroom, enjoying a bit of well-earned peace and quiet.

Katherine Lucile Edwards, age 95, departed this life on January 11, 2026. She was born on October 12, 1930, in Madison County, Alabama, the daughter of the late Elzer Jackson Sharp and Lucille Sharp.

A woman of remarkable intellect and dedication, Katherine devoted more than 40 years of service to NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, retiring in 1994. Her distinguished career culminated in her work with Space Shuttle crew training, where her strong work ethic, professionalism, and kindness earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues.

While her professional accomplishments were significant, Katherine’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who placed her loved ones above all else. She instilled in her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren the belief that honesty, tempered with compassion, is a true virtue.

Katherine shared 72 years of marriage with her beloved husband, Billy Edwards, a union that reflected a rare and beautiful partnership. To know them was to witness unconditional love. Katherine and Billy lived in Huntsville, Alabama, until 2000, when they moved to Lincoln County, Tennessee. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and collecting antiques, but her favorite moments were those spent in the company of her family.

Louise Christa

Ella Louise Christa (Jolly), 74, of Hazel Green, was born on September 1, 1951, and passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Ella, though many called her Louise or Lou for short, was preceded in death by her husband, Alvie Joe Christa; her parents, Mary Elizabeth and Lester Sylvester Jolly; her brothers, Lester Ray Jolly (Lil Man) and Bobby Eugene Jolly Sr.; her sisters, Polly B. Rojas and Judy Upton; and her nephew, Bobby Eugene Jolly Jr., whom she raised as her own.

She is survived by her sons, Billy (Christy) Christa and Tony Christa (Sara); her daughters, Paula McCary (Paul) and Melissa Wilbourn (Matt); her brother, James Earl Jolly (Madie); and her sisters, Donna Kay Wilbourn (Dale), Pamela Louise Burnell (Dennis), and Lucy Florence Locke (Jimmy).

Ella is also survived by her grandchildren, Shane McCary (MaHaley), Johnathan Wilson, Matthew Wilson, Ashley (Aaron), Zoe Mitchell, Alexis Wisener, and Jasmine Jolly, as well as several great-grandchildren: Alaya McCary, Keeley McCary (unborn), Tommy Nelson, Serenity Jordan, Cameron Jordan, and Diego Ramirez.

Ella, who was better known as Louise or “Lou,” was the life of her family and every party. She loved to have fun and enjoy the little things in life. She loved her family with every beat of her heart and became MawMaw to many. She even took on many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews as her own grandchildren because of her deep love for family.

She worked early in life but later gave it up to grow her family and become a housewife, which meant more to her than anything else in the world.

Ella enjoyed her morning coffee throughout the day. Even during hot summer days, she would sit on the porch watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in the yard while sipping on her coffee.

She loved her Alabama football team—ROLL TIDE!

She always looked forward to her birthday because it marked kickoff season, fish fry day, and party time for her; she was always ready to have a good time.

Throughout her life, she was a wife, a mother, an aunt, and an even better MawMaw/Nana—titles she loved most. She was a gentle hand and a voice of reason, as well as a strong hand when she needed to be.

To know Lou was to love Lou. Saying she will be missed is an understatement, but we all know she is healthy, happy, able to breathe freely, and partying with our loved ones in Heaven.

The family will receive friends on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

In Loving Memory of Brian Michael Frandsen

May 4, 1986 – November 8, 2025

Brian Michael Frandsen completed his journey to find peace on November 8, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1986, in Huntsville, Alabama, and spent his early years in Athens, Alabama. In his early teens, he moved to Chino, California, where he spent many years with family and friends. In 2024, he moved back to Ardmore, Tennessee, to spend the final year of his journey with his older sister, with whom he shared a special bond.

Brian loved basketball and video games but preferred to spend most of his time with nature. He always knew how to find the best "spot"; from coast to coast, he spent his time on a lifelong search for peace. His favorite "spot" was a beautiful area at Laguna Beach. He believed all problems could be solved with meditation and a Bible. Above all, Brian loved his family and friends; he loved love.

He loved his Webster’s dictionary and was quick to reference it. Brian was a son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He could be described by many words: he was intelligent, hilarious, laid back, kind, and giving. He was so very much loved. The word that describes his life best is a "Supernova": a catastrophic, brilliant explosion of a star that can briefly outshine an entire galaxy. He will be missed more than words can say and will be remembered forever by all who knew him.

Preceded in Death By:

Brian was welcomed by grandfathers Romeo Naranjo and Ronald Wallace; uncles Jose Naranjo, Rene Naranjo, and Mike Frandsen; aunt Kathy Frandsen Parker; and cousins Evan Frandsen and Taylor Olson.

Survived By:

He leaves behind parents Romero "Vince" Naranjo (Barb) and Terri Novoa (Frank); sisters Stephanie Naranjo, Becka Frandsen, Alicea Peters, and Brittany Baxter; stepbrothers Chris and Mike Navoa; grandmothers Inocencia "Chacha" Naranjo and Karen Wallace; aunts Nerieda "Nene" Husher, Norma Silva, Kayreen Bellamy, Kim Standly, Kris Harden, and Rhonda McLean; and four nephews, seven nieces, and many cousins.

Brian will be taken home to California, where a private service for family and friends will be held at a future date

Hazel Green was honored to serve the family.

Nancy Marie Tortorano-Jones

Nancy Marie Tortorano-Jones passed away at home in Fayetteville, Tenn., Jan. 2, 2026 after a long illness. A beloved homemaker, business partner, child-care specialist and teacher, her greatest joy in life was her family. She was 84.

Born June 24, 1941 in Suffern, N.Y., she spent the majority of her working life caring for and shaping the minds of preschool children throughout Madison County, Ala. She loved them as her own and had lasting relationships with the children and their parents. Nancy was awarded a Child Development Associate Credential from the Child Development Association, and over the years worked at the UAW DaimlerChrysler CDC, Huntsville Hospital CDC and various other child-care facilities.

“I have always loved working with young children,” she once wrote. ”They are our most valuable resource. I feel special knowing I am able to contribute to their development by being a positive influence. Every day I strive to become a better teacher. … I can’t imagine ever doing anything else.”

Nancy, preceded in death by her son, William Louis Moreno Jr., of Buford, Ga., is survived by her daughter, Vicki Richardson and her husband, Dale, of Fayetteville Tenn., and their two sons, Josh Richardson and his daughter, Sophia, of Fayetteville, and Daniel and his wife, Meredith, of Athens, Ala.; her daughter, Michele Myers, and her husband, Richard, of Monahans, Texas; her daughter, Melissa Carpenter, and her husband, Nick, and their children Robbie, Gabby, Nicholas, and Cameron of Bluffton, S.C.; her sister, Barbara Chandler of Athens, Ala.; her brother, Vince and his wife, Pat, of Spring Hill, Fla.; her brother, David, and his wife, Gloria, of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; her brother, John and his fiancé, Stacey, of Navarre, Fla.; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends.

The oldest of five children in a close-knit family from Rockland County, N.Y., Nancy was raised in a loving home where family time included joyful holidays and frequent family excursions to places as varied as Washington, D.C., Detroit, Mich., upstate New York and New York City. She brought that ideal of a warm home life to the family she raised in her adult years. Her greatest joy was spending time with her cherished family.

A 1959 graduate of Spring Valley High School in Spring Valley, N.Y., she had an early interest in nursing and teaching, likely due to caring for younger siblings. Other than caring for her own siblings, her involvement with children goes back to her first babysitting job when she was 10 years old. That summer she cared for a family of five children ranging in age from six months to six years. Over the years she worked on a pediatric ward, as a cheerleading instructor, a Cub Scout leader, a Red Cross volunteer, an infant/ toddler/preschool teacher, a teacher’s aide and youth athletic director.

Long after raising her own children, she furthered her education at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A&M University and several Christian colleges. For well over 40 years she took classes, workshops and seminars to increase her knowledge in child development.

As an Army wife, she lived in a variety of locations, including Texas, Alabama, and Germany on two different deployments of her husband. But she spent the majority of her adult life in Huntsville, Ala., and later Hazel Green, Ala., where, among other things, she helped run her husband’s businesses.

Nancy, always eager to learn, was an engaging conversationalist who was witty and quick to laugh and always courteous. While great with people, Nancy also had an abiding love of animals.

The world is a lesser place without Nancy in it, and her extended family has lost one of its pillars, an unshakeable, dependable, loving, and beautiful woman. The fond memories of those left behind are the living legacy of the departed, and no doubt there are many such joyous memories of Nancy and how she made everyone’s life better. She will be with us whenever we think about the joy we shared.

The funeral mass is Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Tenn. Visitation is Jan. 9th from 5-7 p.m. at Hazel Green Funeral Home, Hazel Green, Ala..
