Madrid Hayes Adams, age 87, of Hazlehurst, GA passed away after a brief illness on October 11, 2024.

Madrid was born November 23, 1936 to Ivey D. and Clara B. Hayes. She was a graduate of Jeff Davis High School then attended Toccoa Falls Bible College. Madrid was married to Richard S. Adams on September 27,1964. They were married for 51 years. Madge spent her life being a loving wife to her husband and a loving mother to her 7 children. Aside from her duties at home, she was the secretary and bookkeeper that came along with ownership of two businesses with her husband, Adams Furniture and Appliance in Macon, GA then The Bargain Barn in Hazlehurst, GA. They were members of First Alliance Church in Macon for many years, where she was the pianist for a time. She loved playing the piano and signing. Currently she was a member of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, GA. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and a kind and loving person who doted on her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard S. Adams, her daughter Kimela J. Gay, daughter Denise L. Adams, daughter Nicholle R. Greene (Kenny), grandchild Cutter L. Jennings. Father Ivey D. Hayes mother Clara B. Hayes, brothers Carroll D. Hayes and Thomas W. Hayes.

Madrid is survived by her daughter Debra L. Adams of Daytona Beach, FL, Terry C. Lavender (Clay)of Statesboro, GA, Vicki V. Adams of Warren, PA and Rebecca E. Adams of Jacksonville, FL. Son in law Kenneth L Greene (Nicki) Grandchildren Brian M. Jennings (Amanda) Statesboro, GA, Hannah N. Pound (Gil) of Milledgeville, GA, Sydney R Greene of St. Augustine FL, Chelsea E. Wester of St. Augustine FL, Abigail L. Greene of St. Augustine FL and Kimela D. Wester of Ormond Beach, FL. Great grandchildren Conner and Tre’ Jennings, Jude and Winnie Halkin, Norah Pound, Hayes Tibbs, Jack Packo as well as a host of cousins and extended family .

The funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst, GA with Reverend Brad Waters officiating. Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Union Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday, November 8, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at 20 West Sycamore Street in Hazlehurst.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Miles Funeral Home.

Ms. Medders was born in Appling County. She was the daughter of the late Donald Mack Medders, Sr. & Sandra Faye Hardwick and was preceded in death by: grandchild: Isabella Crozier and a brother: Tommy Ashmore.

Survivors include: Daughters & Son-in-law: Crystal Thomas of Dry Branch, Brooke & Jason Selph of Cedar Crossing; Son & Daughter-in-law: Daniel & Katie Medders of Texas; Brothers & Sisters-in-law: Don Medders, Jr. of Baxley, Keith & Christy Ashmore of Hazlehurst, Ira & Peggy Medders of Hazlehurst; Linda Attaway of Warner Robins; Sisters & Brother-in-law: Donna Medders, Felecia & Dustin Atkinson all of Hazlehurst; Grandchildren: Sawyer Crozier, Eli Brock & Brailey Selph; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Mr. Hand was born in Broxton, Ga. He was the son of the late Leroy Hand & Louise Selph Hand. Mr. Hand was employed with Elixir Extrusions.

Survivors include: Wife: Wanda Joyce Sanders Hand of Broxton; Brother: Freeman Hand of Snipesville; Sister: Annette Cooper of Ambrose. Other relatives also survive.

Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst announces the funeral service for Mr. Wade Jefferson (Jeff) Pace, age 67, of Hazlehurst, who passed away Monday, September 27, 2021. Services will be held at First United Methodist Church at 11:00 am Wednesday, September 29, 2021 in Hazlehurst, Georgia with Rev. Allen Harstfield officiating. Burial will follow at the Satilla Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Pace was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia, Jeff Davis County. Jeff was the son of the late Charles Balwin and Margaret Ursrey Pace. He was a 1972 graduate of Jeff Davis High School, a 1975 graduate of DeVry Institute of Technology. He was employed by Georgia Power, Southern Nuclear Company for 39 years as an I & C technician and retired as a Maintenance Supervisor.

Survivors include: Wife: Melisa Thomas Pace of Hazlehurst; Children: Megan Davenport (Shawn) of Hazlehurst; Grant J. Pace of Brunswick, Georgia and Jesse W. Pace (Brittney) of Mableton, Georgia; Granddaughters: Pacely, Kenna Lee and Mary Margaret Davenport of Hazlehurst; Sisters: Linda Aycock (Glynn) of Baxley, Georgia and Marie Di Rosa (Mario) of Ft. Myers, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 29, 10:00 am at The First United Methodist Church in Hazlehurst.

Active pallbearers will be: Danny Brown, Robert Miller, Terry Rowe, Anthony Moore, Dennis Yawn & Jason Williams.

Mr. Taylor was born in Bacon County. He was the son of the late Manuel Clifford Taylor & Rachel Mixon Taylor. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children: Johnnie Faye Taylor. Mr. Taylor was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a marine and was also a Mason and a retired electrician from Hazlehurst Mills.

Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst announces the funeral service for Mrs. Shirley Jean DeVaul, age 78, of Baxley, who passed away Thursday, September 16, 2021. Services will be held at Hazlehurst Pentecostal Church 2:00 pm Monday, September 20, 2021.

Rev. Kelvin Sanders will officiate with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery in Cobbtown, Georgia.

Mrs. DeVaul was born in Moultrie, Georgia, Colquitt County. She was the daughter of the late William McCoy and Lillie Mae Sewell and was the wife of the late Thomas DeVaul. Mrs. DeVaul was a member of the Pentecostal Church in Hazlehurst.

Survivors include: Son & Daughter-in-law: Wayne and Tina DeVaul of Baxley; Son & Daughter-in-law: Lance & Candi DeVaul of Lumber City; Grandchildren: Brandon DeVaul, Shelby Martin (Chris), Caleb DeVaul, Karmen Phelps (Tristan), Savannah DeVaul, Alexus DeVaul, Triston Lewis, Grayson Lewis, Faith DeVaul & Hope DeVaul; eight Great Grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 19, 5:00-7:00 pm at Miles Funeral Home.

Mrs. DeVaul will be placed in the church at 1:00 PM Monday.

Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst announces the service for Mr. Russell Thornton (Rusty) age 66, of Hazlehurst, formerly of Alma and Williston, Florida who passed away Saturday, August 21, 2021.

Mr. Thornton was born in Ocilla, Georgia. He was the son of the late Henry Alvin Thornton & Bobbie Rooks Thornton and was preceded in death by a step-mother: Wilma Thornton and a sister: Cheryl Gebhardt-Beaty. Mr. Thornton was a Navy Veteran. He fought for and loved his country and had a compassionate heart to help others. He enjoyed art, fishing and the mountains. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Alma.

Survivors include: Sisters: Dana Joy Williams of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee & Dale Royster of Dunnellon, Florida; Several nieces & nephews, several great-nieces & great-nephews, and numerous friends also survive.

Mr. Rowland was born in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He was the son of the late Luther Rowland & Alice Odesser Hannah Rowland and was preceded in death by a grandson: Hunter Gaines. Mr. Rowland was retired from the weave room at Hazlehurst Mills.

Mrs. Yates was a homemaker and attended the Hazlehurst Church of God of Prophecy.
