Supporting Aggressive or Self-Injurious Behaviors in the Home Setting
When working with children who engage in verbal aggression, physical aggression, or self-injurious behaviors, it’s important to know the function(s) of this behavior as well as the ways to redirect children to keep them, you, and other family members safe. This session will teach participants how to
1) recognize antecedents to aggressive behaviors,
2) provide proactive supports,
3) teach replacement behaviors (including sensory strategies, communication supports, and environmental manipulation) and
4) effectively reinforce these replacement behaviors for long-term change.
We will also discuss ways to talk to siblings about incidents and special needs so they feel supported and safe.
Note: this session is not intended to teach restraint techniques or other crisis interventions; rather it will serve to help families anticipate potential aggression, apply visual and antecedent-based supports, and teach replacement behaviors to their child.

Texas Workforce Solutions–Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Services is an excellent resource for students with disabilities who are preparing for life after high school. Through VR, individuals with physical, mental, or emotional disabilities can receive support to prepare for, obtain, and maintain meaningful employment.

By completing the **Start My VR** online self-referral, students and families take the first step toward exploring career pathways and developing the skills needed for future success. Once a referral is submitted, a VR counselor will contact the individual to discuss interests, strengths, and available supports. Family members or trusted adults are welcome to participate in this conversation.

To qualify for VR services, an individual must:

1. Have a documented physical, cognitive, or mental impairment.
2. Experience challenges in obtaining or maintaining employment due to the impairment.
3. Be able to benefit from VR services that lead to employment.
4. Require VR assistance to prepare for, secure, or retain employment.

VR services are highly individualized and may include career counseling, job placement assistance, training, or support in pursuing postsecondary education.

To learn more or to begin the referral process, visit **Start My VR** at [https://www.twc.texas.gov](https://www.twc.texas.gov) and take the first step toward a meaningful career future!

Special Education

Special Education is a student-centered educational process added to the regular school program to meet the needs of students who have been identified as having a disability and having an educational need for services.

The comprehensive educational program offered by ROBERTSON COUNTY SPECIAL SERVICES (RCSS), provides appropriate services for all students identified as having a disability.

The term "students with disabilities" refers to students who have been evaluated and found to be eligible in accordance with federal and state regulations and laws.
