Next up on the deep dive into 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 is the 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗿𝘆. ⁣

An attachment cry is when we literally cry out when we're little because we feel like we're in danger. It was identified by Jaak Panksepp and is connected to the affective circuit of PANIC.⁣
⁣
We do it as adults, too. It's when we call out to others, either with our actions or words, that we want to be seen and heard. ⁣
⁣
When an attachment cry is not responded to consistently (this is developmental trauma!!), it increases the feelings of panic. ⁣
⁣
As babies, we internallize the belief "I'm alone, no one can help me, the world around me is not safe", etc. and grow up feeling anxious, depressed, insecure, and/or distrustful of others.⁣
⁣
As we get older, an unmet attachment cry can sometimes get labeled as "attention seeking behaviors", which is why understanding the function of a behavior is SO important.
