⭐About this lecture:
Perioperative care in any species focuses on minimizing patient anesthetic risk, preventing complications, and managing pain, throughout the pre-, intra-, and postoperative periods. The nursing care of reptiles is intrinsically complicated due to this being an extremely diverse group of vertebrates with regards to their anatomy and physiology, as well as their environmental and nutritional needs. Furthermore, research is generally lacking, and huge knowledge gaps exist in aspects of their medicine. Focusing on what we do understand, including how to assess health status, provide an appropriate perioperative environment, administer analgesia and anesthesia, and support their recovery, will be the subject of this lecture.
