Gussie Mae Mann, 85, of Alamo, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Alamo, Georgia, on Saturday, June 4, 1938, to the late Lamar and Georgia Mae Davis Roberson.

Gussie was a self-employed hairdresser for many years, showcasing her talent and passion for making others feel their best.

She is survived by her sons - Ronnie (Lisa) Mann of Helena, Ricky (Stacy) Mann of Alamo, and Keith Mann of Alamo. She was a cherished grandmother to Jessica (Billy Joe) Padgett, Adam Mann, Chelsea Scott, Katie Spires, Chassidy (Brad) Braden, Brooke (Chris) Brock, Krystal Mann, Casie Walker, and cherished great grandmother to 23 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Grady (Carolyn) Roberson of Marianna, Florida, and sisters Jewel (Robert) Anderson of Odom and Ruby Gibbs of Uvalda.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence Clifford Mann, her son Kenny Mann, and her parents Lamar and Georgia Mae Davis Roberson.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 3 P.M. at Little Rock Cemetery in Alamo, Georgia, with Rev. Jimbo Dominey officiating.

Betty Nell Harrell Johnson of Helena, GA transitioned to her heavenly home on March 25, 2024. She was preceded in death by her son, William Jackson Marchant and two sisters, Gussie Selph and Mary Studstill.

Betty is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gene Johnson of Helena, GA. In addition, her children, Melinda Williams, Henry Clarence Marchant, Ida Ruth Marchant Davis (Terry) all of Milan, GA, Jennifer Johnson Vaughan (Jim) Tucker, GA and Lisa Johnson Deutsch (Brian) Avondale Estates, GA. Grandchildren include Dwayne Williams, Mandy Dowdy, Dell Jackson, Darla Marchant, Joshua Davis, Jacob Marchant, Cullen Marchant, Will Davis, Cameron Marchant all of Milan, GA. Anna Vaughan, Caroline Vaughan, Ross Deutsch, Henry Deutsch, John David Deutsch of Atlanta and Avondale Estates, GA. Great Grandchildren Zory Williams, Gavin Yawn, Kaiser Jackson, Emma Jackson, Dalton Dowdy, Lex Williams, Hayden Dowdy, Cross Jackson, Lake Williams, Payton Davis, William Henry Davis, Summer Marchant all from Milan, GA. Surviving nieces Karen Jones, Beth Williams, Connie Lann, LaJoy Scurry, and Lettie Ann Williams.

Betty was born on Harrell Hill in Telfair County on May 25, 1935. She was the daughter of Henry Mitchell Harrell and Lettie Wells Harrell. Betty was a beloved wife, mother and public servant. She worked for Telfair County for over 40 years in the Office of Clerk of Superior Court and later in the Probate Court. She received much joy spending time with her many family members. Betty loved traveling to the “cabin” at St. Simons Island, walking on the beach and visiting the mountains during leaf season. On most days she continued to appreciate an evening drive through Telfair County, a place of many special memories. Betty was a member of Rockwell Baptist Church but attended Faith Baptist Church for 38 years as her health permitted. She loved cooking for family and church events. Betty was famous for her divinity and red velvet cake.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers whose compassion and dedication brought comfort to Betty over the last several years. Your unwavering support and kindness will forever be remembered with deep appreciation. Caregivers: Lisa Boone, Gloria Hamilton, Mandy Dowdy, Carla Durrence, Brenda Wiggs and Jona Wilkes.

Her going home celebration will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Faith Baptist Church in McRae, GA, officiated by Bill Jones, with burial to follow at White Springs Baptist Church, Laurens County, GA. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 6-8 pm at Lowes Funeral Home.

Gina Emilene Warren, 63, of McRae, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at her residence.

Gina was born on Monday, October 3, 1960 in McRae, Georgia to Clyde Williams and Emily Guynell Pitts.

She worked for the Telfair County Tax Commissioner’s Office as the Chief Tax Clerk, McRae United Methodist Enrichment School, and was the manager for Smith Jewelers. After retirement she was a homemaker. She was a member of Helena Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clyde Williams.

She is survived by her husband - Randy Warren, Sr. of Milan; son - Randy (Jennifer) Warren, Jr. of McRae; daughter - Emily (Corey Varnadoe) Warren of Helena; grandchildren - Abby Warren, Trey Warren, Jaxon Varnadoe, Ava Varnadoe and Grayson Varnadoe; mother - Guynell Williams of McRae; sisters - Jackie (Sammy) Boney of McRae and Jan (David) Deyo of McRae; brother - Larry (Rhonda) Williams of McRae and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Helena Baptist Church with Rev. Roswell Chapman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Helena Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Chauncey City Cemetery.

Carl Wayne Smith, 73, of Lumber City, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Jeff Davis Hospital in Hazlehurst.

He was born on June 24, 1950 in Hazlehurst, Georgia. He worked for many years in materials management of large construction companies. Most of the jobs he was involved with included those in the nuclear power industry, pulp and paper industry and from time to time, unusual bridge design projects. In his free time, he loved music, reading, and could spend hours with maps.

Carl was a cherished husband, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He is preceded in death by his parents, Maynard McL Barlow and Jaunita Clark Barlow and his brother, Raymond Gary Barlow.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Vickie Powell Smith of Lumber City; his brother, Johnny C. Barlow; sister, Debra B. (Richard) Walker and Renee B. (Joey) O’Neal. He is also survived by his uncle, aunt and numerous nieces and nephews.

William Henry Smith, 75, of McRae, Georgia, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Community Hospice in Vidalia.

William was born in Jacksonville, Georgia on November 11, 1948. He was the owner of McRae Business Machines in McRae. He enjoyed c**n hunting and farm antiques. His favorite pets were horses and mules. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Pat Smith and Gladys Covington Smith; sisters, Geralda Dover and Waynie Maloy and his grandchildren; Karlee, Kennadee, Kolton, and Kooper Smith.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Smith of McRae; children, Kim (Lynn) Stinson of McRae, Kory (Crissy) Smith of McRae; grandchildren, Kade (Sarah) Stinson, Kimberlyn Stinson, Kyler Stinson, Kaylee Smith, Konner Smith and Maryee Grace Selph; great granddaughter, Kambry Garner; sister Ann (Virgil) Smith of Jacksonville and brother, Ed (Von) Hulett of Jacksonville.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024 at 11 A.M. at Telfair Memorial Gardens in McRae. Rev. BL Horne will officiate. Visitation will be held from 6 P.M. – 8 P.M. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Lowes Funeral Home in McRae.

Benjamin “Ben” Gary Harris passed away February 24, 2024 at the age of 51 after an extended illness and hospitalization at Piedmont Hospital Midtown, Atlanta, Ga.

Ben was born July 8, 1972 to his parents, Gary and Sharon Harris, in McRae, Georgia.

Ben currently lived in Atlanta, Georgia where he was a renowned, successful realtor. He enjoyed sharing his many talents, capturing smile and beautiful orchids. Loved by so many friends and family, Ben enjoyed his life to the fullest embarking on adventures and never leaving a detail out throughout his life. He always inspired others to never give up and live out their dreams. His kind heart and generosity impacted a multitude of people and will forever be cherished. To know Ben was to love him forever.

He is survived by his parents, Gary and Sharon Harris of McRae; his beloved dog Oliver; sister, Lisa Ussery of McRae; brother and sister-in-law, Elton and Kelly Harris of Milan. Nephews, Caleb (Madison) Ussery, Cale (Autumn) Ussery, Dalton Peyton, C**t Harris. Nieces, Presley Harris and Ella Harris. Great-nephew, Jaxon Ussery; and great-nieces, Adaline Ussery and Lenny Drew Ussery; and an innumerable number of friends in McRae, Atlanta, Florida, as well as many other places. Ben was recently preceded in death by his other beloved dog Hermione.

Services for a celebration of Ben’s life will be held at China Hill Christian Church, 1400 West Lower River Road (Hwy 117), Rhine, Ga 31077 on Sunday March 3, 2024 at 3 P.M. Pastor Scott McDuffie, Brandi Williams and Donna Barron will be officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, March 3, 2024, one hour prior to the service from 2 P.M. – 3 P.M.

Family will be gathered at the home of Elton and Kelly Harris at 2069 Kinnett Road Milan, GA 31060 for visitation.

Garland Elliott White, 70, of Alamo, Georgia passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at Luce Heart Institute at the Medical Center in Macon, Georgia.

Garland was born in Augusta, Georgia on Friday, January 15, 1954 to Bernice Crafton White and Harry White, Jr.

He and his wife, Marty, met in 1968 and married in June 1972. They have been inseparable ever since. He was a farmer for many years and was a truck driver. He and his wife owned G & M Farms. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and cars. He recently became a Mason. He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church.

He is preceded in death by his son, Garland Elliott White II and his parents, Harry and Bernice White.

He is survived by his wife, Marty Yawn White of Alamo, daughter, Vanessa (Jason) Weaver and grandchildren, Dylan and Alyssa Weaver, all of Jacksonville Beach, Florida; brother, Wayne (Teresa) White of Dublin and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2024 from 2 P.M. – 3 P.M. in the chapel of Lowes Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow in the chapel at 3 P.M. Burial will be held in the Scotland City Cemetery. Bro. Mike Smith will be officiating.

Jean was born in McRae, Georgia on December 4, 1941. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John Kenneth Webb and Dewitt Clark; daughter, Kim Edenfield, parents, B.D. Smith and Lois Sheppard Smith, brothers, Larry Smith and Jerry Smith; sisters, Debra Smith and Marsha Smith.

She was retired from the Telfair County Board of Education where she worked in food service. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Kay (David) Conley of Rhine and John (Laura) Webb of Duluth; grandchildren, Kellie (Brad) Dowdy, Kerrie Knowles, Mary Edenfield, Phillip Edenfield, Jennifer Webb and several great-grandchildren; brothers, Lawrence (Sonja) Smith of Alamo and James (Pat) Smith of Milan; special friend, Jeff Davis of Nahunta.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 18, 2024 from 2 P.M. – 3 P.M. at Faith Baptist Church in McRae followed by the funeral service at 3 P.M. Rev. Bill Jones will be officiating. Burial will take place at Zion Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. White was born in Dublin, Georgia on January 27, 1939. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lorene White, his parents, Dewey White and Lessie Mae Johnson White and his brothers, Donald White and Thadys White.

He was employed by the Department of Transportation for 33 years before retiring. He attended Oakdale Baptist Church.

Kenneth Lamar Powell, age 86, of Helena, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at McRae Manor Nursing Home.

Kenneth was a member of Soul Cross Ministries in McRae. He was retired from Loxscreen Company based in Columbia, South Carolina. He also served as a bailiff at the Telfair County Courthouse and worked at LaFavor’s Body Shop in Helena.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman He also enjoyed music, especially “old” country music, and pop music of the 60’s and 70’s. He enjoyed reading Bible prophecy books and dearly loved his dog, “Rocky”.

He was the widower of Barbara Faye W. Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Millard and Beulah W. Evans Powell; Brothers - Claxton Evans and Weston Evans; Sister - Gwen Purvis and infant son, Kenneth Claxton Powell.

He is survived by his children – Angela (James) Kinnett of McRae, Julie (Joey) Swain of Albany, Cheri (Jerry) Cooper of Camilla; Grandchildren – Kevin (Rosa) Kinnett, Summer (Shelby) Holland, Lindsay (Cole) Wilcox , Kinsley Swain, and Hunter Cooper; Great Grandchildren – Brandon (Adrianna) Holland, Emily Holland, Lauren Holland, Kylee (Hilton) Kinnett, Kenadee Kinnett, Hayden Kinnett, Aubree Zib and Grayson Swain; Great Great Grandchildren – Landon Holland and Payslee Graham; Special family friend – Carlos Martinez.

A memorial service will be held at Helena Baptist Church on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 2 P.M. with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service at 1 P.M. Rev. Fred McCoy, Jr. will be officiating.

Embry Harrell, age 81, of McRae, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Harrell and Kathleen Wells Harrell.

Mr. Harrell was owner of Harrell Insurance Agency for many years until his retirement. He was also a retired private pilot and served as a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Debra McCall Harrell of McRae; Children, Mickey Harrell of Cochran, Jody Harrell of Milan, Joey (Selena) Harrell of McRae, Bryanna Minter and Skyla Minter of McRae; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 9, 2024 from 1 P.M. – 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home. The memorial service will then follow at 2 P.M. in the Chapel of Lowes Funeral Home. Interment will be private. Glen Conley will officiate.
