Our Bird Watching class participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count on a field trip to the Alabama Wildlife Center in Oak Mountain State Park.

We started by counting the birds that visited the Wildlife Center’s feeders. We observed 17 different species! Our list is in the 10th photo of this post.

Educational Director Viktoria Partain introduced us to an American kestrel and gave us a tour of the Center where we were able to see several hawks, a fish crow, a Eurasian eagle owl, and a bald eagle! We were also able to watch a leucistic red-tailed hawk practicing flight, and I’ll share a video in the comments. Did you know a leucistic red-tailed hawk is solid white?

Christmas in the Village is a great opportunity to help families in the Marks Village community in Birmingham, Alabama, to provide gifts for their families. Oak Tree Ministries provides a Christmas store that makes gifts available at affordable prices so that parents can shop for their own children. The money raised goes directly into ministry programs for the children!
