This is from The Kindness Project and will give you a little bit of an idea as to why we are doing a collection for them.
Today is Random Acts of Kindness Day! Here’s what kindness looked like in real life this weekend for our TKP founder, Jenae...
This past weekend, I was helping in the boutique during one of our busiest days yet. We welcomed over a dozen new kids with emergency needs, each carrying more than just a list of essentials.
One was a teen girl visiting us for the very first time after being placed with a foster family. Our volunteers walked beside her through the boutique, encouraging her to choose what she needed - clothes, socks, shoes (she found TWO amazing pairs!) and what she DESERVED: makeup, jewelry, bath bombs. Little things that say, you matter.🥰
As she was getting ready to leave with her fully-filled red duffle bag over her shoulder, she came up to me and asked if I was the one who started TKP. When I said yes, she paused and said:
“Can I give you a hug? What you did for me today ... and for all the kids who come here ... is really special. It means more to us, all of us, than you know.”
And then she hugged me. Tight. 🥺
This was a teen who probably has to wear armor most days to protect her heart. But in that moment, she felt seen. Treated with dignity. Safe enough to be soft.
I cried.
The volunteers cried.
Her foster parents cried.
This is why the long days, the logistics, the stress, the uncertainty ... it’s all worth it.
Because kindness changes how kids see themselves. 🫶
💛 Random Acts of Kindness Day is today (2/17).💙
If this moment moved you, please consider turning that feeling into action.
Your support of our 265 Campaign helps us keep this special space open for decades ... so kids can walk in with uncertainty and walk out with dignity, confidence, and hope.
Even a few dollars helps create moments like this.
Moments where a young person feels seen.
Moments that remind us why this work matters.
