ORGANIC TIP TUESDAY

DID YOU KNOW..,.?
Taking some over-the-counter medications for coughs and colds can increase blood pressure and effect blood pressure medication? Decongestants can cause narrowing of blood vessels and increase the chance of raising your blood pressure.
Try drinking honey with lemon in warm water to ease sore throat pain. Honey is also effective as cough suppressant, too. Taking a teaspoon of crushed ginger or garlic (separate or together) can also be beneficial. They both contain anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral properties which can help relieve cold symptoms.
As always, consult with your healthcare provider or pharmacist before choosing a cough or cold remedy.

HOLISTIC WEEK-END HIGHLIGHT

Asparagus has long stalks and spear-like tips. It’s known for being high in fiber and a good source of folate, which is important for pregnant women. It also provides vitamins A, B6, C, E, K, plus thiamin and potassium. Asparagus contains glutathione, an antioxidant that helps protect the body from certain cancers.
Eating asparagus can support digestion, eye health, and the brain, liver, and kidneys. It may also help manage diabetes, lower cholesterol, and reduce high blood pressure. However, eating too much can cause dehydration or gout. So, talk with your doctor or pharmacist about portion sizes.

NATURAL MEDICINE MONDAY

The season has changed.
Adding mushrooms to a regular diet can be beneficial as it gets colder, because of its high selenium content. Selenium found in fungi helps to protect the immune system. Mushrooms also have antibacterial properties that help prevent bacterial infections. The high fiber content, potassium, antioxidants, vitamin D, and proteins found in mushrooms provide other benefits. Vitamin D strengthens bones which makes the body strong and gives it the ability to fight against infections. Proteins help muscle activity and antioxidants improve brain and memory functions.
Eating mushrooms has also been linked to cardiovascular benefits like reducing inflammation, maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, and preventing blood vessel damage.

THURSDAY'S HEALTHY THOUGHT

It's National Diabetes Month!
Staying active plays a key role in managing diabetes. Even a small amount of exercise can help control blood glucose levels, maintain a healthy weight, and boost your mood and energy.
Start with just 10 minutes a day — and slowly increase up to 30 minutes.
Here are a few simple tips to get moving:
*Take a walk after meals — outdoors or at the mall
*Use the stairs instead of the elevator
*Go for a bike ride with family or friends
*Try a fitness or yoga class
*Build strength doing push-ups or light weights
Before starting any new activity, check with your doctor to ensure it’s safe for you.
Remember, every step counts — small moves add up to big health benefits!
