A Balanced Approach LLC

A Balanced Approach LLC A Balanced Approach LLC provides in-home ABA services in Henderson, South (east or west) Las Vegas & Boulder City.

I have worked in the Autism Spectrum Disorder field for 20 years now. I started as a teacher assistant, moved into teaching, then classroom consulting, then the private arena. I’ve now worked with kids aged 3-16, in homes, schools and clinics, and I still love what I do!- but I want to by modeling more of “today’s ABA”- a compassionate, ethical, flexible, big picture, whole-family kind of Applied Behavior Analysis. There are massive gaps between 1:1 therapy and school, and I have a strong desire to bridge those gaps. I want to enmesh my teaching background with my ABA experience, and help more kids be more successful in doing so. I also want to provide more flexible services to families, because full-time, clinic-based services don’t work for everyone, and honestly- aren’t always needed. Therefore, the goal of A Balanced Approach is to balance home, school, and community as well as 1:1 services, small group and large group services. In addition to intensive family training and IEP advocacy, I am hoping to help families determine the creative combination of services and settings that work best for them and will ultimately help everyone achieve a better quality of life.

A proactive classroom shift does not happen by correction alone.
It happens when students hear what they are doing right.

Positive descriptive praise helps build clarity, confidence, and connection.
It shows students exactly which behaviors to keep using.

Instead of only saying “good job,” try:
“Thank you for getting started right away.”
“I love how you kept your hands to yourself.”
“You followed directions the first time.”
“That was a respectful way to ask for help.”

Praise is not fluff.
It is a strategy.
And in many classrooms, it is one of the most powerful proactive tools we have.

When chaos hits, we often try to do more.

More consequences.
More systems.
More control.

But the most effective move is actually to go back.

Back to the foundations:

• Re-teach how to access attention appropriately
• Give clear, specific instructions

Chaos often means something hasn’t been clearly taught or reinforced yet.

Instead of asking,
“How do I stop this?”

Ask,
“What do I need to re-teach?”

That shift changes everything.

The Ackerman Center is expanding care with a new Mental Health Counseling service designed specifically for neurodivergent minds.

Many systems are built around neurotypical expectations, which can leave neurodivergent children, teens, and young adults feeling misunderstood or unsupported.

Our Mental Health Counseling Department focuses on the intersection of neurodevelopment and mental health, offering strengths-based, person-centered care that honors how each individual thinks, processes, and experiences the world.

Services support:
• Neurodivergent children ages 2–18
• Neurodivergent young adults ages 18–30
• Parents, caregivers, and siblings

Through individual and family counseling, our team helps empower children, support young adults, and provide families with tools and guidance along the way.

Frustration tolerance isn’t something kids are born with. It’s something they practice.

Small daily experiences — waiting, retrying, losing, finishing something hard — slowly build the ability to handle discomfort instead of shutting down.

The checklist in this post includes simple, everyday ways to strengthen frustration tolerance — without creating power struggles or constant conflict.

If this is something you're working on at home, we have more resources for you.

Comment “frustration123” and we’ll send you:

• Both of our in-depth blogs on frustration tolerance
• Our Frustration Tolerance Free Guide full of scripts and strategies

We also have more on frustration tolerance for members. Inside the Mind & Child membership, we also have an hour-long deep dive on frustration tolerance, along with our Parenting 101 course, Tantrum Course, and a full library of practical parenting tools ($13). You can navigate to our webpage via the link in our bio.

When your child says, “I quit,” it can feel like defiance or weakness. Often, it’s neither. It’s overwhelm.

Instead of pushing or rescuing, try: “Do you need help or a short break?”

This communicates two powerful messages:

1. I believe you can continue.

2. You’re allowed support.

Frustration tolerance grows when kids feel capable — not cornered. Support doesn’t mean solving the problem for them. It means helping them stay in it long enough to build strength.

Quitting isn’t always the problem. Learning to re-engage is the skill.

This is Day 66 of Raising Kids Who Can Handle Life. March focuses on helping kids persist through discomfort with steadiness and support.
