I’ve been really torn about Halloween this year.
We didn’t decorate, just kept things simple with a cozy fall theme. I even thought about taking the kids camping instead.
The truth is, I don’t love Halloween. The skeletons, witches, and blood are not something we celebrate or feel aligned with. But I do love seeing my kids light up in their costumes, running around with friends, and how our neighborhood actually comes alive for one night each year.
So we’ve made our own version of Halloween, one that fits our family.
We still do the costumes and the fun, but we skip the candy overload. After trick-or-treating, the kids each pick a few favorites, and we do what we call “the switch.”
They wake up to something special instead, like a family game, new pajamas, art supplies, a book, or an activity we can enjoy together. We donate the candy.
It’s a tradition that keeps the fun and memories.
Less sugar, less chaos, more connection.
That’s what this season is about for us. 🧡 Do you have a Halloween tradition?
