Even though Breast Cancer Awareness month is almost over, it is never too late to get your mammogram scheduled. The staff at PrimeCare Henderson wants you to know how important this screening test is. It truly saves lives. We wore pink today for the loved ones lost, the survivors, and the ones fighting today. We wore it for our moms, aunts, grandmothers, sisters and friends. The lady in the pink sweatshirt, who you know as our referrals staff member, Mrs. Vernell, is a survivor. Our “Fight” shirts are for one of our own at a sister PrimeCare clinic, who is fighting breast cancer now. So. We want YOU to know this.
From the American Cancer Society:
The average risk of a woman in the United States developing breast cancer is 13%. That means 1 in 8 women will develops breast cancer in her lifetime.
Breast cancer accounts for 30% of all new female cancers diagnosed each year.
The average age for breast cancer diagnosis is 62. Another way to think about that is half of the women who develop breast cancer are 62 or younger when diagnosed.
Also, don’t forget about men. About 1 out of every 100 breast cancers in the US is diagnosed in a male patient.
So, please talk to your doctor today about when you should start your mammogram screenings or if you are behind with your screenings, get this scheduled. Our sister PrimeCare office in Selmer offers mammography services.
We at PrimeCare are happy to see you to discuss the need for this and other screening tests to help keep you healthy.
