Kathy Skaggs, 70, of Henderson, Kentucky, left this world on January 27, 2026, at Lucy Smith King Care Center. Born on February 2, 1955, in Arlington, Kentucky, she was the cherished daughter of the late Raymond and Rose (Mitchell) Campbell.

Kathy's vibrant spirit and warmth touched the lives of many. As a talented bartender and a dedicated factory foreman, she excelled in her career while simultaneously building connections with everyone she met. A true people person, Kathy possessed an innate ability to make others feel special and valued, reflecting her love for community and fellowship.

She is survived by her beloved son, Michael Melendez; her former husband, Felix Melendez; and her brother, Bobby Abernathy. Kathy's family will remember her not only for her professional accomplishments but also for her kindness, laughter, and the love she so freely gave.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 6, 2026, at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson with Chaplain Dayne Bogard officating. Burial will follow at Fernwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 AM until the service begins.

As we reflect on Kathy's life, we remember the joy she brought to others and the deep connections she cultivated. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

John Tom Utley

John Tom Utley, 91, of Smith Mills, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026 at Lucy King Care Center, surrounded by his loving family . He was born on July 4, 1934, in Pikeville, Kentucky, to the late John and Clytie Utley. John Tom was a dedicated farmer and a beloved member of the community, where he served with his late wife, Annette Utley, as an active member of Belleview Methodist Church and Smith Mills Fire Department Lions Club for over 65 years.

John Tom loved visits from his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids as they brought much enjoyment to his life. When he wasn't spending time with his family he enjoyed fishing and playing poker. One of his favorite things was his Fourth of July birthday party where everyone came out to celebrate with him. John Tom never met a stranger. He was the best story teller, he really knew how to light up a room. He loved showing off his things in the nick nack room. John Tom was known for always saying "hey babe" to everyone.

John Tom is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Annette, and his son Darrell Utley. He is survived by his two sons, Mike and Tommy Utley, seven grandchildren: Julie Utley, Tiffany Knight (Jacob), Jonathan Utley (Emily), Courtney Utley, Nick Utley, Hayleigh Utley (Cyle) and Trey Utley (Erica), as well as 23 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Tomblinson Funeral Home, with Brother Steve Hale and Brother Donnie House officiating.

Visitation will take place on Monday, February 2, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and again on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM until the service time at 12:00 PM.

Burial will be at Smith Mills Cemetery. American Legion Worsham Post #40 Military Funeral Detail and Honor Guard will conduct military services at the cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will include Trey Utley, Nick Utley, Mike Utley, Cyle Peltier, Jonathan Utley, Jacob Knight, and Thomas Utley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Will Cobb and David Sugg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Anthony's Hospice or to Belleview Methodist Church, P.O. Box 95, Smith Mills, KY 42457.

John Tom Utley will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his service to the community, and his profound impact on the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Following the burial of John Tom, there will be a committal service for his son Darrell at Smith Mills Cemetery.

James L. Gish, 81, of Henderson, passed away Friday, January 23, 2026 at Deaconess Henderson.

He was born in Henderson County on May 13, 1944 to Louia and Marylee (Overby) Gish.

James was an equipment operator at Alcoa for 32 years and served in the United States Air Force. He was a lifelong member of the VFW in Illinois and Pleiku Air Base Association. He spent many years behind the wheel of a John Deere tractor and found joy in hunting, fishing, farming, and spoiling his wife.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Gish and sister, Judy Parker.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Rita Gish; children, Lori (Barry) Eblen and James L. (Terri) Gish, Jr.; grandchildren, James Michael (Jessie) Eblen, Jonathan (Carli) Eblen, Justin (Rachel) Eblen, Shelby Lynn Gish, and Casey Nicole Green; great grandchildren, Cora McKenzie, Reed McKenzie, Henry Eblen, Charlie Eblen, Ellis Eblen, Grant Eblen, C**t Green, and Chloe Green.

No services are scheduled.

Patti Jean Norris Hale passed away on January 24, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was deeply loved and will be remembered for her warmth, her voice, and the way she brought people together.

Patti was preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Farley Garland; her father, Billy Norris; and her sister, Rhonda Lowery.

She is survived by her children: son Kristopher Wright Little (San Angelo, TX) and his wife Coree; daughters Allison Michele Horn (Henderson Ky); Lori Annette Little (South Fulton, TN) and her partner Russell; Angela Lee Noonan (Hickman, Ky) and her husband Mickey; and Melissa Jo Hale (Henderson, Ky).

She is also survived by her sisters, Cathy Freeman (Benton, Ky) and her husband Terry and Lori Blodgett (Goodyear, AZ) and her husband Jeff.

Patti was a proud grandmother to Zachary Little and his wife Vanessa; Gabriel Little and his wife Deziray; Mackenzie Odom and her husband Jonathon; Jacob Little and his fiancée Kate; Kristopher Horn and his fiancé Jill; Nicholas Horn and his wife Macey; Madison Newton; Ian Newton (James); Devin Newton; Mickelle Grant and her husband Jaylon; Malachi Noonan and his fiancée Tessa; Britley Noonan; Kyara Jones and fiancé Jykerion; MaKayla Rollins; and Khloe Hale. She was also blessed with 12 great-grandchildren.

Patti was loved by many and will always be remembered as an incredible cook—her meals and recipes are still talked about and cherished. She had a love for singing, a gift that brought joy to those around her. In her later years, her great-granddaughter Nova gave her renewed purpose and light, holding a special place in her heart.

Patti Jean Norris Hale will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love, family, and unforgettable meals will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A memorial service will be held at a later date; details will be shared with family and friends when arrangements are finalized.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Hinton, Sr; parents, Lillian and Alex D. Mitchell; brother, James Mitchell.

Carol is survived by her children, Kelly Hinton of Henderson, KY, Jerry Hinton, Jr., and wife, Mary Jo of Henderson, KY; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy Mitchell of Dawson Springs, KY; several nieces and nephews, and her 3 grand dogs, Rudy, Hodgy, and Bruno.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum.

Betty S. (Qualls) Ward Jenkins, 93, of Henderson, passed away after a brief illness on Friday, January 23, 2026 at Lucy Smith King Care Center.

She was born in Henderson County on September 12, 1932 to Charles and Blanche Qualls.

Betty worked at the PVA office and was a lifelong member of Immanuel Baptist Temple, which later became Grace Point Church. Her life was rooted in a strong Christian faith, and she found joy on the golf course.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Robert “Bobby” Ward and Paul Jenkins; son, Monte Ward; daughter, Suzan Mitchell; son-in-law, Sherman “Butch” Mitchell; grandson, Aaron Mitchell; and siblings, Mary Hallmark, Dorothy Gibson, Thelma Poland, Georgia Roy, Helen Chapman, Margie Qualls, and Charles Qualls, Jr.

Survivors include her son, Randy (Tracey) Ward of Danville, KY; daughter-in-law, Martha Ward; brother, William “Bill” (Marilyn) Qualls; grandchildren, Chris (Danielle) Mitchell, Allison (Andy) Conner, Melissa Allinder, Tyler Ward, Jackson Ward, and Ellie Ward; great grandchildren, Garrett Allinder, Claire Allinder, Dylan Mitchell, Alana Conner, Charlee Mitchell, and Drew Conner.

Debra Evitts Owens, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, at Deaconess Henderson Hospital. She was born on February 2, 1957, in Muhlenberg County to the late Less and Margie (Tinsley) Evitts . Debra's warm spirit and strong presence touched the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

A dedicated bartender, Debra had a natural gift for making everyone feel welcome, and she found joy in the camaraderie of friends and family, especially during her time at the Moose lodge. She had a love for reading and spent countless hours immersed in her favorite books. In her quieter moments, Debra found great pleasure in playing games on her phone, a simple joy that brought her peace.

Debra is survived by her loving husband, Daniel Owens; her daughter, Maranda Rose (Chris); six siblings; two cherished grandchildren, Arianna and Cameron Rose; and one great-grandchild, Giovanni Carandante. She will be deeply missed by all of her loved ones.

In addition to her parents, Debra was preceded in death by her son, Michael Townsend, and three siblings, whose memories she carried in her heart.

Buddy Newman

Buddy Newman, of Henderson, KY, peacefully left this world for his eternal home with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was a loving and faithful husband, father, brother, and friend.

Buddy was born in Hebbardsville, KY on October 11, 1934 to Frank and Doris (Hazelwood) Newman.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: James (Jimmy) Newman and Claude Newman, and four sisters: Dorothy Jenkins, Carolyn Smith, JoAnn Boswell, and Martha James.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Harback) Newman, two sons: Joel (Gina) Newman of Dana Point, CA and Brad Newman of Henderson, KY; five grandchildren: Abraham Newman, Aaron (Madelyn) Newman, Joseph Newman, Torrey Newman, and Rachael Newman; two brothers: Wyatt (Tinky) Newman of Henderson, KY, Ron (Verna) Newman of Fayetteville, PA, and one sister, Shirley Rideout of Lakeland, FL; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Buddy grew up and attended school in Hebbardsville , KY and was later inducted into the Henderson County Sports Hall of Fame for his participation on the Hebbardsville Varsity Basketball Team. At the age of twenty-two he moved to Orange County, California where he raised a family and built his own commercial painting business, New West Painting, which he operated until his retirement in 2004.

After retiring, he returned to Henderson, KY where he was a member of Henderson First Baptist Church, and active in GVBA Disaster Relief, as well as teaching Bible studies at local assisted living facilities and nursing homes and serving at the Salvation Army where he also became a Board Member. Buddy was an avid golfer for many years and a lifelong UK Wildcats Basketball fan. Above all, he loved spending time with his family.

Due to the weather, a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Contributions in Buddy’s honor can be made to The Salvation Army or GVBA Disaster Relief.

Johnny - John M. Potts

On Friday, January 16, 2026, at 3:43 p.m., Johnny Potts, our beloved husband, father, papaw, and brother, at his home, surrounded by his loving wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and sister, left his temporary earthly home to be with Jesus in his eternal forever home.Johnny courageously fought his battle of cancer.

Johnny was born on November 13, 1952 in Henderson, Kentucky to the late Donnie and Jessie Potts. He was a proud, long-standing member of Plumbers and Steamfitters local #136 in Evansville, Indiana where he began his career in 1972.

Those who knew him best will remember him to be a witty, generous, and kind-hearted man. We will all remember his wit and his johnny-isms which warmed our hearts and made us laugh. Johnny was passionate about nature and the outdoors and found great pleasure in fishing and hunting. He often said he did his praying in the woods.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nancy Potts and Bryant and Gertrude Chrisler, all of Owensboro.

Johnny is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy Potts of Henderson; four children, daughters Nikki LeAnne Sunderland (Tray) of Slaughters, Jessie Mae Wagner and Mallory Ann Adams (Ryan), both of Evansville, IN and son, John Brian Potts (Rita) of Henderson; sister, Charlotte Paulin of Evansville; two brothers Don J. Potts (Karen) of Robards, Ky and Bobby Potts (Sally) of Henderson.

He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, Katelyn Howard (Josh), Kendall Potts, and Gracie Potts, all of Henderson, Hunter Sunderland of Slaughters, Erin Potts and Reagan Potts, both of Henderson, Myra Schutz, David Schutz, Jaxon Schutz, and Danielle Underwood, all of Mt. Vernon, IN, and Carter Johnson of Evansville; three great-grandchildren, Amya Howard of Henderson, Rylan Schutz and Dakota Schutz, both of Mt. Vernon; aunt, Jo White of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21 at Tomblinson Funeral Home in Henderson with Bros. Mike Spivey and Jackie Dale Townsend officiating.

Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 21, from 10:00 a.m. until service time.

Pallbearers will be John B. Potts, Tray Sunderland, Katelyn Howard, Josh Howard, Brian Bradley, Hunter Sunderland, David Schutz, and Jaxon Schutz.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don J. Potts and Bobby Potts

Memorial contributions may take the form of donations to Zion Baptist Church or St. Anthony’s Hospice.

With gratitude and heartfelt thanks, the family wishes to thank Redbank's Colonial Terrace in Sebree for their care and compassion during Johnny’s rehab and also to St. Anthony’s Hospice without whom we could not have brought him home. We will always be grateful and never forget you.

Charles Michael Townsend, a beloved son,brother and uncle passed away on January 14, 2026, at his home in Henderson, KY. Born on July 25, 1977, he was the son of Robert M. Townsend and Debra Owens. Michael was known for his love of playing pool and spending hours on his computer, enjoying every moment he could at home.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Robert and Gayle Townsend of Paducah, and his mother and stepfather, Debra and Daniel Owens of Henderson. Michael also leaves behind his sister, Maranda Rose (Chris) of Huntington, IN, and his stepsister, Erin Murphy (Coty) of Paducah, KY. He will be missed by his two nephews, Cameron Rose and Dexter Canella, two nieces, Arianna Rose and Payton Fowler, and his great-nephew, Giovanni Carandante.

Memorial services will be 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at Tomblinson Funeral Home Henderson Chapel.

Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
