Today is Thank a Resident & Fellow Day — and at Maria Parham Health, we are proud to celebrate the incredible physicians who are training, learning and serving right here in our community.
Each year on the last Friday of February, healthcare organizations across the country pause to recognize how integral residents are to the care team. These dedicated physicians are on the front lines — providing compassionate care, supporting patients and families, and continuously expanding their knowledge and skills to better serve others.
We are especially proud of our residents in the Duke Rural Family Medicine Residency Program, who are training at Maria Parham Health while making a meaningful impact on the health and well-being of our community. Their commitment to rural healthcare strengthens access to quality care close to home and helps shape the future of medicine in our region.
To show our appreciation, we’ll be celebrating with tokens of appreciation, gifts and a special lunch in the hospital. If you run into one of our fine residents today, please be sure to give them a special “Thank You!” Their dedication, long hours and heart for service truly make a difference every day.

Yesterday, Maria Parham Health proudly partnered with Warren County EMS in a statewide effort to break the world record for the most people trained in Hands-Only CPR in a single day.

While the world record wasn’t broken, something incredible still happened…
1) The most people ever trained in Hands-Only CPR in one day in the United States
2) The most people ever trained in Hands-Only CPR in one day in North Carolina
3) The most people ever trained in Hands-Only CPR in one day in Warren County

One day.
One goal.
Thousands of new lifesavers.
We are so proud of everyone who showed up, learned the skill, and committed to being ready when it matters most. CPR saves lives — and now thousands more people are prepared to step in during an emergency.
Learn CPR. Be ready to save a life.

Huge kudos to Maria Parham Health Dietary Director Keith Weiss for the amazing work he’s doing at Vance County High School!
Mrs. Yarborough’s students are proudly participating in the Dinah Gore Cooking Competition, and Keith has been right there beside them—training, mentoring, and helping them sharpen their culinary skills every step of the way.
We love seeing our team members invest their time and talents into the next generation. Supporting students as they grow in confidence and creativity in the kitchen is just one more way we’re committed to serving our community beyond our hospital walls.
Way to go, Keith—and best of luck to these talented young chefs!

Happy CAUTI-gras from the Maria Parham Health team!
We’re letting the good times roll — and celebrating something truly worth cheering for: patient safety excellence!
Through strong teamwork, evidence-based care, and daily vigilance, our team remains committed to preventing CAUTIs (catheter-associated urinary tract infections) and protecting every patient we serve.

And here’s what else we’re celebrating so far in 2026:

Zero CAUTIs
Zero surgical site infections
Zero hospital-onset C-diff infections
Zero CLABSIs (central line-associated bloodstream infections)

These milestones don’t happen by accident — they happen because of the dedication, accountability, and clinical excellence of our incredible team members who prioritize safety every single shift.
Thank you to our physicians, nurses, environmental services, infection prevention, and every department that plays a role in keeping our patients safe.
At Maria Parham Health, safety isn’t just a goal — it’s our standard.

Think you might have the flu? Here’s what to do to take care of yourself and protect others:

- Stay home and rest. Avoid work, school or public places. Rest helps your body fight the infection and prevents it from spreading to others.

- Monitor your symptoms. Keep track of severity, duration and any changes in symptoms like fever, chills, cough, sore throat, body aches, fatigue, headache, runny or stuffy nose.

- Hydrate and manage symptoms. Drink plenty of water or herbal tea. Over-the-counter medications can help with symptoms. Avoid alcohol and smoking.

- Seek medical care if needed. Call your healthcare provider if you experience trouble breathing, chest pain, severe weakness, confusion, persistent high fever or worsening symptoms, especially if you are pregnant, older or have chronic conditions. Early treatment can help reduce complications.

- Protect your community. Cover coughs and sneezes, wash your hands frequently and stay home until you’ve been fever-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
