Honoring my favorite Austrian 🇦🇹 patient 🐅 as I head over to Klagenfurt this week. He lived with severe disabling knee pain for decades and always had a smile.

His smiles were much bigger once his knee pain was gone 😊. Careful ligament balancing to correct as much deformity as possible and still have a normal feeling joint.

I’ve been thinking about this post for the past two weeks and mostly the reason why I’ve gone quiet on the socials…

Dr Richard Steadman, or Steady as we all called him, died last month. My dear friend Larry Ruvo called me during surgery that day to tell me, and I knew it wasn’t for a trivial reason.

Steady was a great influence in my life and career. The picture shown here from the NYTimes article was taken the fellowship year I trained in Vail with him.

I feel deeply indebted to him for the doors that opened as a result of my fellowship with him. But I’m also grateful for the quiet demeanor and thoughtful care he had for each of his patients, not just the famous ones. It was an example to me that I try hard to maintain a fraction of in my clinical practice.

When I told him I was considering a job back in Nevada, he was so excited. I would be the first Steadman fellow from Vail to set up shop in the / He and my other amazing mentors had prepared me for this journey, which at the time we didn’t have or or residency here in Las Vegas. It has been a fun ride thus far and I hope to continue his legacy here. Onwards and upwards
