There are so many barriers to lactation in this country that many families rely on formula. During this crisis it's important that everyone helps out in whatever way they can! Even just making a meal and dropping it off can lighten the load for a stressed out family.

ps...if you are doing some extra pumping and need something to store the milk in, I have storage bags and containers that were donated to me at my office.

Size matters - especially with pump fl**ges!
And Less can be More if you have the right size fl**ges.

Since taking Babies in Common's Pumping & Feeding Gear for IBCLCs workshop, I've been sizing people down to their ni**le size and their pumping sessions are more comfortable PLUS they pump More milk in Less time! Win-win-win.

It's exciting to have a graphic to share, which is very different from the every pump manual/fl**ge size suggestion I've ever seen, yet it works sooooo much better!

ps...sizes start at 10mm!
pps...24mm is the standard and it turns out that most people need a smaller (or much smaller) size!!

How does your fl**ge fit? Here is my new Fl**ge FITS Guide, at least the short version. Longer version with more details coming soon!
I find that the perfect size is usually the one where the tunnel is the same size or almost the same size as your actual ni**le…I find that people get more milk and much more comfort this way! And pumping is often quicker or they get more milk.
What size are you? Have you tried larger and smaller to see what works best?
I teach workshops for professionals about fl**ge fitting, pumping and bottles, so if you would like to see an IBCLC or other perinatal professional that has taken my workshop, let me know! Or, I may be available, but I’m not available again until late May for consultations.
Enjoy this and please share it far and wide!

Having a simple checklist can really help outline the overall picture when it comes to lactation. There's a lot going on in the first few weeks and sometimes things aren't as they seem. Looking at a few things can help you decide if you need additional support or if you can relax and just keep doing what you're doing.

I've been squirrelling away on a behind the scenes project... A breastfeeding Workbook and Journal. Here's a free taster of what you can expect!

Happy IBCLC Day - a day to recognize lactation professionals for the support they provide helping parents successfully feed their babies human milk!

When I had my first baby, breastfeeding didn't go well and it was an entire team of IBCLCs who helped me overcome many lactation issues. I know that I would have quit that first week if it wasn't for them! When I had more lactation issues with my second baby I needed support, even though I was studying to become an IBCLC!

Lactation is often one of the most challenging things a parent and baby work together to achieve. It can be hard and beautiful at the same time. It's such an honor to be in a place now where I can provide support and encouragement to families so they can meet their lactation goals!

Sometimes the smallest adjustments make the biggest impact!
Also, there is no one right way to latch your baby. If you're not in pain and your baby is getting milk - satisfied after nursing with plenty of diapers (both wet and dirty) and they are growing, things are going well.
If you are having issues getting comfortable or if you are concerned about your baby getting enough milk, let's chat.

Turn. Tug. Tuck. Tip!

It's really magical watching a newborn baby crawl and latch on all by themselves! Babies are so smart - sometimes we can overcomplicate things. When latching isn't going well, one of the best things to do is just hang out skin-to-skin and let your baby do the work.
