Baking with your kids = language therapy in disguise 🍪 🍪🍪
When you bake together, you’re not just making a treat — you’re building communication skills in a fun, natural way.

While baking, kids practice language skills:
• Following directions
• Sequencing (first, next, last)
• Vocabulary (mix, pour, sticky, hot)
• WH-questions (what, where, why)
• Describing (wet/dry, big/small)
• Expressive & receptive language
• Social communication & turn-taking
• Problem-solving & cause/effect

Tip: Talk through what you’re doing, pause to let your child respond, and keep it fun!

Occupational Therapy Skills Targeted While Baking:
• Sensory exploration (textures, smells, temperatures)
• Tactile processing (sticky, wet, dry, smooth)
• Proprioceptive input (stirring, kneading, pouring)
• Fine motor skills (scooping, pouring, pinching, sprinkling)

Introduce infant oral toys at 3 months during the day to promote oral motor skills, hand eye coordination, hand to mouth coordination, pre-feeding skills, and reduce pacifier use.

Which bottle ni**le shapes are best for infants? Avoid flat and orthodontic ni**les. The ones that claim to be shaped like a breast, do not actually behave like breast tissue once inside the baby’s mouth. Choose a gradual slope, cylindrical shape, and a wide base ni**le to promote a wide gape, tongue cupping, and lip flanging. Even if you’re not breastfeeding, choosing the right ni**le shape will promote optimal oral function and craniofacial development for your baby. If baby is struggling with these shapes, a feeding and oral function assessment is indicated to figure out why.
