Stress doesn’t just affect your mood.
It affects your body.
When you stay in stress mode for long periods of time, your nervous system stays activated. Over time, that ongoing stress can increase inflammation in the body.
Inflammation is part of the body’s defense system. But when it becomes chronic, it contributes to:
• persistent fatigue
• brain fog
• sleep disruption
• increased pain sensitivity
• lowered mood
This creates a loop:
Stress → inflammation → fatigue → more stress
And because many high-functioning adults keep performing, the cycle often goes unnoticed. Until it doesn’t.
This isn’t about laziness or discipline.
It’s about physiology.
The good news: your nervous system can learn how to come out of chronic activation.
Therapy that focuses on nervous system regulation can help interrupt this cycle. Not by forcing calm, but by helping the body experience safety again.
If this resonates, you’re not alone. This is a common focus in my work with adults navigating burnout and chronic stress. Follow for more.
