Charles “Page” Bowen, 93, of Oxford, NC, passed away Monday, March 23, 2026, at Maria Parham Health after a brief illness.

Born in Warren County, he was the son of the late Charlie H. Bowen and Bessie Edmonds Bowen.

He moved to Oxford in 1966 where he and his wife raised three daughters. He loved spending time with his family and his cats, being outside on his deck, working in his yard, and doing projects in his workshop. He enjoyed playing pool, following NASCAR and dining out with many friends. He had a long, healthy and joyful life and made a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

He was a former, longtime member of Delrayno Baptist Church and is currently a member at Brown’s Baptist Church, his childhood church home. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. Page could be found at nearly every Oxford Shrine Club event and was also a member of Oxford Masonic Lodge #121, the Sudan Temple and York Rite Bodies.

He retired as a Sales Manager from Penny Furniture Company after thirty-four years of service.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Oxford. Conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-seven years, Patricia Moore Bowen; three daughters, Pamela B. Freeman, Susan B. Freeman (Joe) and Cynthia B. Thomas (Kenneth); five grandchildren, Leslie Freeman (Will), Sam Freeman (Amira), Clayton Thomas, Erika Thomas and Ashlyn Thomas (Jay); one sister, Barbara B. Pinnell; as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert Gordon Bowen, Bennett Bowen and Leonard Hudson Bowen.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital, www.shrinerschildrens.org.

James “Bennie” Woodlief, 73 of Henderson, NC, passed away peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Born in Vance County, he was the son of the late James Elmo Woodlief and Mae Frances Tant Woodlief.

Mr. Woodlief was a member of Cokesbury Global Methodist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Dorothy (Dot) Mae Tippett Woodlief; two daughters, Crystal W. Hobgood (Brian), and Pamela “Pam” W. Newcomb (Kevin); one son, Joseph “Joe” W. Woodlief (Jennifer); eight grandchildren, Katie Newcomb (Landon), Drake Hobgood, Jacob Newcomb, Tyler Newcomb, Hunter Woodlief, Madison Woodlief, Gage Hobgood, and Bryson Woodlief; one sister Betty Jean Gill (Harry); and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members; along with his beloved dog Chloe Mae. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gerald Mae Reavis.

The family will hold a memorial service on Friday March 27, 2026, at 2pm at Cokesbury Global Methodist Church. The family will receive friends and family prior to the service in the fellowship hall beginning at 12:45. At other times visitation is welcomed at the home of Dot Woodlief.

Jerry Watson, age 84, a resident of Clarksville, VA, passed away after several weeks of illness on March 21, 2026. He was the son of the late Macy K. Watson and Mildred Watson Newsome.

Jerry graduated from Berea High School and completed college at East Carolina University, Greenville, NC. He grew up in the Oxford, NC community, was a member of Hester Baptist Church and worked on the family farm until he was married. Jerry loved the community and the family farm, was an avid hunter and enjoyed going to Colorado to elk hunt with his son, Jason. Jerry majored in art while in college. He was very talented and passionate about art in his earlier years after college creating vivid pictures of wildlife, penciled family tree for people in the community and even a church mural for a local church. He created a pencil drawing also for Hester Baptist Church and they used it for many years on their Sunday bulletins.

Surviving are Jerry’s children; Jason K. Watson (Inge), Tommy Watson; Jerry’s sisters Ernestine Parrott and Diane Young (Ashton).

The family will have a private ceremony for Jerry on the family farm at a later date.

Born on October 20, 1966, in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Hunt and Elizabeth Montgomery Brantley.

She was a member of Grace Ministries in Henderson.

Survivors include her husband, Joseph Lee Francis; one daughter, Samantha Francis; two sons, Sam Francis (Beth) and Kenneth Wayne “Junebug” Newton; two stepdaughters, Destiny Francis and Shannon Harris; seven grandchildren, Trae, Christopher, Drew, Summer, Michael, Lily and Penelope; two sisters, Karen Breedlove and Diane Thomas (Ricky); a special friend, Glenn Griffin and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Barbara Weaver “Bob” McFalls, age 83, of Stem, NC, peacefully passed away at Duke Regional Hospital on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.

Born on May 18, 1942, in Vance County, NC. Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Allie Lee Weaver and Edna Mae Ayscue. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; James Donald McFalls (Don), sisters; Joyce Medlin, Brenda Faye Blankenship; brother, Tommy Lee Weaver and her son, Timothy Donald “Tim” McFalls.

Barbara life was richly blessed. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, nannie, sister, aunt, and friend. She shared 66 beautiful years of marriage with the love of her life, her husband Don McFalls. Together, they built a life rooted in strong family values, enduring love, and long-lasting bonds.

A woman of Baptist faith, Barbara found comfort and joy in faithfully reading and studying her Bible daily.

Professionally, she was a respected Hairdresser, retired in 2015 from Nu-Look Beauty Salon in Oxford, NC. Her passion was Hair and she was great at it.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Pastor Jimmy Hall will officiate. Interment will follow at Meadowview Memorial Park.

She is lovingly remembered by her sister; Linda Mae Hicks; her daughters, Donna Englebright (Larry), Jodi Hanes, Jan Bowles and her sons, Dennis McFalls (Grace) and Kenneth McFalls (Diane). Pet Penny.

Barbara was a proud grandma/Nannie/Nannie Boots to Jennifer Nadeau (Mike), Stacy Outland (Chris), Connor McFalls (Caitlyn), Alex McFalls, Tiffany McFalls, Brandy Elliott, Amber Sarver, Josh Rochelle (Christina), Miles Hanes (Jess), and Lee Bowles (Jessie). She was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will continue to carry her memory in their hearts.

Barbara loved the simple things-her love for her family, reading, playing games on her phone, listening to Gospel music; her favorite was “Jesus loves me”. She loved sharing Bible Quotes, Prayers, Recipes through messenger on FaceBook. Phones chats: before ending our conversation over the phone with her it was never saying “Bye”, it was see you later or she would just simply hang up. She did not like saying Bye.

The family will receive friends Saturday, March 21, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford.

George "G.W." Wyche Watts, 67, of Oxford passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at WakeMed Health.

Born on December 15, 1958, he was the son of the late Frank Limuel Watts and Ester Eugene Brooks.

G.W. was a member of Mt. Creek Baptist Church and was a former member of Cornwall Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from S.T. Wooten after thirty-eight years of service.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, March 22, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home of Oxford. Joe Don Cooper will officiate. Interment will follow at Watts Family Cemetery.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Frank Catlett and Bessie Story Catlett. She was the widow of Grover Eppy Grissom Jr.

Margie retired from Carolina Telephone / Sprint in 1988 after thirty years of service.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Sossamon Funeral Home in Henderson. Conducted by Rev. Frank Sossamon. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens.

Wayne Gary Blackwell, 91, of Bullock, NC passed away on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Duke University Hospital.

Born in Granville County, he was the son of the late Chestley Howard Blackwell, and Bessie Daniel Blackwell.

Mr. Blackwell was a member of Grassy Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, treasurer, on the cemetery committee, and sang in the choir. He enjoyed playing and listening to gospel, country, and bluegrass music and loved to joke around with those around him.

Surviving are two sons Donald Blackwell (Florence), and Ronald Blackwell; four grandchildren, Daniel Blackwell (Mauricia), Jeffrey Blackwell (LeAnne), Steven Blackwell (Ashley), and Melinda Smith (Alan); twelve great-grandchildren; one brother, Randolph Blackwell; one sister, Faye Frazier (Henry); and one nephew, Aaron Blackwell. Alongside his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Mae Elliott Blackwell, and one son, Charles Clifton Blackwell.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, March 15, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Grassy Creek Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Cameron Currin. Interment will immediately follow the service at the church cemetery.

Born in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Plummer O. Robertson Sr. And Eva Bradford Robertson.

She was a retired employee of the former Sears Roebuck and Company for thirty-three years.

Surviving are one daughter, Dianne P. Hill (Jim); one son, Wayne B. Perkinson (Sandra); one grandson, Michael B. Perkinson (Mandy); and two great-grandchildren, Tyler B. Perkinson, and Emily F. Perkinson. Alongside her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Lucius B. “Shorty” Perkinson; three sisters, Mabel R. Smith, Virginia R. Tunstall, and Eleanor R.
