Last week we discussed Aparigraha, the practice of non-grasping. In yoga, this doesnโ€™t mean detachment, it means learning when to soften our hold on things.

๐Ÿ’œ Spaciousness is a form of trust.
๐Ÿ’œ Yielding or softening is not quitting.
๐Ÿ’œ When your effort, expectation, or comparison feels like too much, let go.

On your mat, as you move today, notice where you cling to outcome or to how you think a pose should feel. Youโ€™re invited to explore what happens when you release just a little and to let the pose pass through you instead of trying to seize the pose.

Aparigraha reminds us that we donโ€™t have to grip life to participate fully in it. Often, itโ€™s in releasing our hold that we experience the most ease and clarity. As you move through the world today, consider what you might practice letting go of, not because itโ€™s wrong, but because itโ€™s no longer needed.

Aparigraha, sorta.

Bramacharya is the principle of directing our energy intentionally. It is often translated as celibacy, rather than responsible management of resources, but we will work with bramacharya as a wise use of energy rather than denial. In yoga, it isnโ€™t about restriction, itโ€™s about discernment.

๐Ÿ’› Efficiency is a form of wisdom.
๐Ÿ’› Leave yourself with something in reserve.
๐Ÿ’› Every choice is an energetic investment.

As you move today, notice where your energy flows easily and where it leaks through unnecessary tension or rushing. Youโ€™re invited to practice with enough effort to sustain the movement, no more. Allow your energy to circulate inward and upward instead of leaking outward. Leaking effort creates fatigue; integrity builds steadiness.

Brahmacharya reminds us that when energy is guided with care, it becomes steady and available, rather than scattered or depleted. Consider where in your life you might benefit from spending your energy more intentionally โ€“ allowing space for what truly matters.

Asteya is the principle of non-stealing. While this often refers to not taking what doesnโ€™t belong to us, in yoga it also asks us to notice how we may be taking from ourselves. Asteya also invites us to notice how we relate to time. When we rush, we often steal from presence, our own and othersโ€™. Being on time honors the shared agreement of the group practice and weโ€™re less likely to take from the collective energy of the room. Asteya isnโ€™t about perfection, itโ€™s about awareness.

๐Ÿ’š Thereโ€™s no need to take extra effort from tomorrow.
๐Ÿ’š A sustainable practice honors future energy.
๐Ÿ’š Slowing down protects our nervous system and the group container.

There is wisdom in stopping before depletion, in leaving something in reserve. This is not holding back, itโ€™s practicing integrity. Step off your mat today and consider where in your life you might allow yourself to move at a pace that doesnโ€™t take more than you can give.

As you move your body this week, see if you can notice moments where you rush, force, or over-exert, moments where you might be borrowing energy from later in the day or later in the week. Practice with a goal of sufficiency, where nothing needs to be taken, and nothing needs to be proven.
