Sunny Southern Nevada is already nearing 100 degree temperatures and plenty of sun, which means hat season has begun!

BRE… 60 years! Peter Brock saw these hats come into BRE and immediately exclaimed "These are the best hats we've ever done!" We agree. In working with a magazine editor today on a BRE Z piece, we ran across an oldie but a goodie. It's not related to the piece the magazine is working on except for the fact that Gayle caught an error in the title and shared that most uncaught errors are in titles and subtitles as everyone is focused on the details of the text. This reminded her of this Ad that appeared in Pl***oy in the early '70s and we once again had a good laugh about it.

I was at this shoot as we'd brought the BRE 240Z to be included in the Ad. The suit jacket provided for the male model was a bit large and baggy on him so the person in charge of attire took two clothes pins and clipped them onto the back to tighten it up. Very common. Gayle does something similar today when I'm being videotaped and wearing a dress shirt that won't hang right.

The photo is not great quality as it's a photo of the Ad in an actual magazine but if you zoom in you'll see the two clothes pins! I've always wondered how many people looked at the photos from this shoot, from the photographer to all of the people at the Ad agency and ultimately at Pl***oy to sign-off on it, and no one caught that the clothes pins were visible. And what about the fire extinguisher on top of the female model's head? The photographer should have seen this through the lens and had it moved. Only a foot down the wall it would have been okay.

Well that's what makes something a Classic, like this Ad!

It’s special when you’ve had major life accomplishments with people. What makes it even better is when those professional relationships turn into friendships that only deepen with time.

I couldn’t have more respect for a driver than I do for John Morton, who turned a young 84 today. He not only is one of the best and smoothest drivers I’ve known but he excelled in taking care of the equipment (cars). Where the engines in our BRE guest cars had to be regularly changed out and rebuilt, John’s #46 car could go race after race with the same engine as John drove the car so perfectly. If you’ve ever heard me talk about John, you’ve seen me choke up at the thought of what an amazing person he is.

It is an honor for me to know John and I’m looking forward to being at the Motorsports Hall of Fame ceremonies this March in Daytona when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame. It’s about time!! Thank you John for another year of friendship and congratulations on being recognized by the best in our sport. You deserve every accolade you receive! Your friend, Peter

You asked for it and they've just arrived! This wonderful 60th anniversary artwork of the cars of BRE by contemporary Japanese artist Ozizo in shirt form. Available in both short AND long sleeves.

To celebrate BRE’s 60th anniversary this shirt features all the BRE cars designed by Peter Brock, built by BRE or raced by the BRE team. From top down:

The iconic #46 BRE 240Z: Which won SCCA C Production class Championships in ’70 and ‘71, driven by none other than John Morton.

The Triumph TR-250K: Which Brock designed and built for Kas Kastner, Competition Director for Triumph USA to show the Brits what kind of aerodynamic, sleek car they could build on their Triumph chassis’.

The BRE Hino Samurai: The GT car Brock designed, built and brought to the Japanese Grand Prix in 1967 with great fanfare.

The Datsun 2000 Roadster: BRE’s first Datsun racer. It’s success in winning the Pacific Region in 1969 garnered BRE the Datsun West Coast Factory team contract.

The BRE Hino Contessa 1300: In this car Brock won the Mission Bell 500, which was the support race for the prestigious Riverside Grand Prix in ‘66. This is where it all began. Brock’s win in this Japanese car kicked off Brock’s long and successful history with Japanese cars.

Last but not least is the giant killer BRE Datsun 510: Driver John Morton won two prestigious Trans-Am 2.5 Championships in this #46 car.
