Back to Basics.

Imprint and release, aka very gentle pelvic rocking, is one of our foundational exercises for engaging your deep abdominals and unwinding any gripping in the back and deep hip muscles. It is simple to do and very effective no matter how strong you are. We suggest this mindful movement becomes a part of your daily routine.

Illiotibial and throacolumbar fascia are a continuum. In order to have proper function of the IT band, we need optimal balance of the rib cage, pelvis, and legs. Revisit how your clients with IT band problems are doing shoulder bridge and single leg stance, standing arm work and lunges.

Mindful or mind full?

Here are three ways to bring mindfulness to your Pilates exercise practice:

1. Pay Attention
Listen closely to your teachers corrections and cues throughout class. Try to suspend criticisms or judgement about yourself or others.

2. Make it Feel New
Feel like you've done an exercise a million times? Try changing the way you think about the movementβ€”be more specific about how you initiate a movement or apply a theme to the class to help you work on something consistently throughout every exercise.

3. Focus on your Breath
Take special notice of how you breathe throughout the class. Do you hold your breath or breathe easily as you moveβ€”especially notice what happens when the exercise is challenging.
