The best ways to prevent infections are:
-Wash hands regularly especially after handling animals or before handling food.
- Keep cuts clean.
-Stay on top of chronic conditions.
-Prepare food safely.

Using antibiotics responsibly and getting recommended vaccines keep yourself and others healthy. Vaccines help prevent infections, reduce the need for antibiotics, and fight drug resistance.

Here are some important things to remember:
- When prescribed an antibiotic, take the full course. Do not save some for later. Do not take old antibiotics lurking in the back of your cabinet.
-Dispose of old antibiotics according to the directions on the packaging or through a drug take-back program. Do not flush old antibiotics.
-Do not take antibiotics prescribed for someone else.

Misuse of antibiotics happens when a person takes the wrong antibiotic, the wrong dose of an antibiotic or an antibiotic for the wrong length of time. Remember sometimes your body needs an antibiotic and sometimes it doesn’t. Talk to your doctor about the best treatment for your illness and steps you can take to feel better when you don't need an antibiotic.

While antibiotics are highly effective at treating bacterial infections, they aren’t always needed. With some bacterial infections (like many sinus infections and some ear infections) patients’ bodies are able to fight off the bacteria on their own; however, some do require medication. It is best to discuss your illness with your doctor and let them help you determine the best course of action. It is important to keep in mind that antibiotics are designed to destroy bacteria, not viruses. Attempts to use antibiotics to treat a viral infection (like colds/flu) will be ineffective.

Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections by destroying the bacteria themselves or preventing their growth. Every time a person takes antibiotics, most bacteria (both good and bad) are killed; however, resistant bacteria may be left to grow and multiply. In time, these leftover populations can become so strong that antibiotics are no longer effective making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death. This would impact people of all ages as well as the healthcare, veterinary and agriculture industries. This makes it one of the world's most urgent public health problems.

Bacteria are tiny, single-celled organisms that are found everywhere, from soil and water to inside living things. While some bacteria are harmful and cause infections like strep throat and urinary tract infections, many are harmless. Some bacteria are even helpful to our digestive and immune systems.

It is recommended that people age 6 months and above receive the influenza vaccine each year in Sept or October. If you haven't gotten yours yet, please do so now. There are certain populations that are at much higher risk of complications from the flu. These populations are highly encouraged to get the vaccine. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Dr. Cozart.

We do not give vaccines in the office; however, there are several options locally. Some of them will require appointments, so plan accordingly.

Renovations on our new space are well under way. We have been hard at work transforming the space: tearing out flooring, walls, cabinets & countertops, patching holes, making repairs, sanding cabinets, moving doors, and building a wall. In this pic, Dr. Cozart is securing some loose spots on the old drywall.
