Pain in your jaw can be a result of many different things. Neck and shoulder tension without release can travel to the jaw muscles causing tension and pain when opening and closing the mouth. Headaches and pain in the temporal lobes are sometimes the most reoccurring symptoms after tension has not been resolved. Frequent massage on the upper body, head and neck will help but you have to change some habits at home and in your daily routine as well.
*Wear a mouth guard that helps position your jaw to release tension (this is not the same as a mouth guard that covers your teeth to prevent grinding)
*Use good posture when sitting
* Exercise your jaw frequently by opening and closing your mouth
*Try to not hold in stress and clinch your jaw, find healthy ways to release tension
Upper head and neck massage is one of my favorites. If you’d like to schedule a routine maintenance massage to target these problem areas, just book a TMJ face massage today!
