10/30/2025
Adoptee Remembrance Day was created by adult adoptee, Pamela Karanova. Each year on October 30th, this day reminds us of the inherent complexities and traumatic roots in adoption.
At noon, C2Adopt will have a four minute silence for all adoptees and their experience of trauma as part of their placement story and move from one family to another. We also acknowledge the ways that trauma continues for some through parent abuse after adoption, placement in so-called "treatment" facilities, lack of citizenship and threat of deportation, and increased mental health needs with heightened risk for death by su***de.
C2Adopt seeks to both acknowledge these harms and work towards a world where adult adoptees can receive the supports they desperately need, where youth can remain in kinship and communities of origin wherever possible; and where adoptive families have adequate training and ongoing access to adoption competent professionals that can help prevent additional harm to youth adopted.
We also seek opportunities to educate about the barriers to equal rights for adoptees in policy and law and to end the harms caused by disconnection and secrecy in adoption.
