***FARMSTAND HOURS***

We were lucky to get about a 10 minute window through the clouds the other night, and saw some of the spectacle that is the Aurora Borealis! (Though I didn’t get it in the picture, we got a Lyrid meteorite fly-by for our efforts, too!) We’ve really been in a sweet spot for celestial events the past couple years! (Sorry…was I geek rambling?) Anyhow…
This week at the farmstand:
*PORK -

*CHICKEN - whole chickens, chickens cut into 8 pieces, thighs, drums, chicken wings, garlic and herb marinated wings, sweet Italian, salt & pepper, maple breakfast sausage, chicken bones
*TURKEY- Whole turkeys, turkeys cut in half (great for the smoker), turkey breast, thighs, wings, drumsticks, ground Turkey, turkey Kielbasa (not smoked), Hot Italian turkey sausage linked, turkey bones/backs

Sweden has developed a new type of edible road salt that is helping save birds from deadly dehydration during harsh winters. According to American News, traditional rock salt used to melt ice on roads was causing serious harm to birds, who often consumed it while foraging. The salt led to dehydration and even death, prompting engineers to search for a safer alternative. Their solution was a deicing formula made from beet extract and maize starch, which melts ice effectively without poisoning wildlife.

While the edible salt is a major improvement for birds and terrestrial animals, scientists are still studying its broader ecological effects. According to the American Physiological Society, beet-based deicers may affect aquatic insects like mayflies by altering fluid retention and organ function. This means that while the salt is safer for birds, its impact on other species needs careful monitoring.

Hey everyone, just wanted to give a big shout-out and thank you for all your amazing support as always! 🙏 With the really harsh weather coming our way, we're on the hunt for some super heavy-duty tarps. These will be a lifesaver for keeping the dogs protected from the harsh weather. If anyone has good quality, tough tarps, please let us know! Your help makes a huge difference!
