Why We’re Lighting it Green for CCA 💡💚

This month, we’re shining a light on cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer), a rare, aggressive disease that urgently needs greater awareness, research, and support.

We can't wait to see all of the photos of green in your area. Please be sure to tag us and include in your social media posts so we can amplify your awareness. 📷

We asked past Research Fellows what their award meant to them—and the CCA community. The answer: invaluable.

You can help us push research forward even more with our second annual Community Funded Fellowship.

Last year, 98 donors came together — giving anywhere from $10 to $10,000+ to fund life-saving research. Every dollar moves us closer to better treatments, better outcomes, and more hope. Be part of what’s next at curecca.org/awareness-month/ccf-community-funded-fellowship/

A special moment from Taylor, Texas' City Council Meeting, recognizing February 19, 2026 as World Cholangiocarcinoma Day through a special proclamation.

This is thanks to John McDonald, who honors his wife Michelle through his work to raise awareness and vital funds for continued cholangiocarcinoma research and treatments, especially through the annual fundraiser, Michelle's Hot Peeps Beat CC 5K Fun Run.

John and those joining with him, including the city of Taylor, are an amazing example of how there is truly strength in community and hope in research. We're so thankful!

This year, Natalie Rosseau, a second-year Internal Medicine resident physician at the University of Florida, reached out to her local medical building to ask if they would light up green in honor of Cholangiocarcinoma Awareness Month. 💡💚

They said yes. During the email exchange, one of the staff members shared that his wife's father had passed away from the disease. He thanked Natalie for bringing attention to cholangiocarcinoma and the Foundation and shared that, moving forward, the Harrell Medical Education Building will light up every year.

Thank you to Natalie Rosseau for raising awareness of cholangiocarcinoma.

Ciara Speller uses her bond with her father, even after his passing, to honor his memory through the Jeffrey Speller Foundation '4 Change'.

In addition to providing opportunities for underresouced youth to play golf, her dad's beloved sport, Ciara and JSF4C have been instrumental in raising awareness for CCA, including an Awareness Event, flag raising, and for all of February!

They have an exciting fundraiser benefiting CCF coming up! Details:

Melinda Bachini, our wonderful Chief Patient Officer, shared her powerful patient story with researchers and clinicians this weekend at HCC Live.

We're so grateful for Melinda's compassion, courage, and steadfast determination to use her experience to advocate for the best care and support for patients and their loved ones. It's so important that our whole community -- patients, caregivers, and researchers and physicians -- hear stories like hers.

Join us in congratulating Daily Point of Light Honoree Duncan Foley. 🌟

In 2021, what was supposed to be a routine gallbladder surgery revealed stage 4 cholangiocarcinoma. Faced with a rare and aggressive bile duct cancer diagnosis, Duncan chose hope over fear and turned his journey into a mission to ensure no one faces this disease alone.

Now in his fifth year of survival, Duncan is a dedicated volunteer with the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation. Through leadership on the Seattle Care Team and involvement in the Annual Conference, he helps connect patients and caregivers to trusted information, research updates, and meaningful community support.

Duncan’s optimism is contagious. His advocacy bridges the gap between complex science and real-life experience — reminding others that even in the face of uncertainty, hope and action matter.

Read Duncan’s inspiring story and nominate an outstanding volunteer or family as a Daily Point of Light. 💚

See how Duncan Foley transformed his 2021 diagnosis into a mission of hope, leadership and community advocacy through the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.

🔬 Webinar: A Personalized Approach to Cancer Management of Cholangiocarcinoma Using circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA).

Cholangiocarcinoma can be challenging to manage. Join us to learn about a new, personalized approach that is helping doctors better understand and manage this disease. We will discuss how a simple blood test can detect tiny traces of the cancer's DNA (ctDNA) circulating in your blood. This information can help tailor treatment specifically to you, offering a more precise and hopeful path forward.

Presented by Dr. Midhun Malla, MD, MS from Heersink School of Medicine.
