Meet the Founder — Andrea Cain, LMT

I’m the person behind Releaf Massage Therapy.

I started Releaf with one goal: help people move better and live with less pain. My work focuses on understanding how the body actually functions, because pain rarely starts where it shows up.

A little about me outside the treatment room:

• I’m married to my rock. My husband keeps everything running—from maintenance and landscaping to hauling water for Releaf, while also running his own business, Eco Innovations, Ltd., which creates all-natural tick and mosquito insecticide for landscapes and body spray.
• We have a son, River, who is 9 (just weeks away from turning 10).
• I grew up in the Finger Lakes, NY and we now have a vacation rental on Canandaigua Lake, which lets us spend time with family—and yes, that’s technically our third business.
• I’m also a twin.

A few fun facts about me:

• I love the sun and warm weather. I always say I belong on an island.
• I’m a water girl.
• I love to travel.
• I have a BA in Psychology and completed my first year of a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling.
• I’m an anatomy nerd. Learning how the body moves is endlessly fascinating to me.
• I keep a daily meditation practice that helps me stay grounded and present.
• I feel my best when I move my body—I’m a regular at gym classes.

One belief guides both my life and my work:

We are far more in charge of our reality than we realize. When you understand that, life shifts from being an observer…to becoming the director.

And that same mindset applies to the body. With the right care, awareness, and movement, change is possible.

5 Things Crucial for Living Pain-Free
From a Massage Therapist Who Treats Pain Daily

1. Address the Root, Not Just the Symptom
Pain shows up where the body is overloaded. The source is often somewhere else. Assessment of movement patterns and postural lines matters.

2. Consistency Over Crisis Care
Waiting until pain is severe keeps you in a cycle. Regular bodywork maintains tissue health, circulation, and nervous system regulation.

3. Balance Strength and Mobility
Strong muscles support joints, but strength works best when mobility is present. A body that moves well distributes load instead of concentrating stress in one area.

4. Manage Stress Intentionally
Chronic stress increases muscle guarding and inflammation. Your nervous system directly influences your pain levels. Calm the system, reduce the tension.

5. Keep Moving
Muscles that are strong and well-coordinated protect your joints. Intentional movement patterns prevent overload and compensation. Daily movement habits keep circulation flowing, tissues adaptable, and pain from building up.

✨ Pain relief isn’t just about one session. It’s about how you support your body every day.

Last month, Evan Kleinhaus, LMT provided sports massage and medical support to the United States Navy men’s and women’s cross country teams during the military championships, helping keep athletes prepared and race-ready.

The men went on to win the championship over the United States Air Force in a tie-breaker — the first time in history — and the women earned a strong second-place finish.

Supporting athletes at that level reflects the same clinical focus applied in every session at Releaf: improving movement efficiency, addressing underlying dysfunction, and helping the body perform at its best — through all of life’s activities.

Pain is often the end result of imbalance, not the starting point.

When muscles stop doing their job from weakness, restriction, or imbalances, movement patterns shift and the body naturally compensates causing pain elsewhere.

For example, the masseter, scalenes, pec minor, and iliacus are postural anchor muscles for the flexor line of the body. They help the body hold bony structures in place when there is lack of integrity in other muscles and they are the key muscles to check when clients are experiencing imbalances and pain from forward posture.

This is why we assess and may treat the front of the neck and/or chest when you come in seeking relief from back of the neck/shoulder pain.

—————

✨ Assessing postural lines identifies where the body is under strain, overworking, or failing to support movement efficiently.

What this changes:
• Find the true source of pain
The painful area is often compensating for dysfunction elsewhere.

• Correct overload patterns
Reduces strain on tissues that have been forced to do too much work.

• Improve movement efficiency
Restores proper load distribution across muscles and joints.

• Prevent recurrence
Treating compensation patterns reduces the cycle of repeated pain.

• Deliver more precise treatment
Focus shifts from chasing symptoms to addressing the underlying mechanical problem.

✨Result: longer-lasting relief, better posture, and reduced stress on the body with daily movement.

I’ve been snowed in with my kids so long that I’m considering narrating my own life in my head just to feel something.

I love being a stay-at-home mom. Truly. But sometimes I need to leave the house and go somewhere that doesn’t require wipes, snacks, or negotiating treaties between siblings.

So where do local parents go when they need a kid-free reset?
These are the best places in the area, straight from parents who know the value of quiet.

Without the kids:
SPLAT Studio (TGIF / 21+ / Craft Nights)
Stumpy’s Hatchet House Hershey
What If of Hershey
The Vineyard and Brewery at Hershey
Fenicci's of Hershey

Self-Care for Parents:
Hidden Springs Integrative Health
Kairos Massage & Skincare
Releaf Massage Therapy
The Spa At The Hotel Hershey
MeltSpa by Hershey

Which one is your favorite? Vote link in the comments and help them snag the number one spot. You’re not abandoning your kids. You’re practicing self-preservation.
