There are times when life raises the bar just a tad higher (or a lot higher) for us and we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed with all the responsibilities we need to tend to. Shifts in our personal life, professional life, and community life can leave us feeling exhausted.

I'm sure we have all experienced the thought of "just giving up," at least once. And if that's what you need, there is no shame. Sometimes a whole refocus is what is needed.

But I want to invite you to make time to rest. And before you do so, ask yourself, "what type of rest does my body need?" Is it physical, mental, emotional, sensory? Being able to identify the type of rest you need can help you feel re-energized and restored!

Our mental health journey is similar to our physical health journey. Changes do not happen overnight. Some days will be easier than others, and some days we will regress to old habits. Consistency and patience are key. Be gentle with yourself 🩷

I will be the first to admit this...making ourselves available to God is easier said than done. Oftentimes, our desires do not necessarily align with God's plan.

In reading Matthew Kelly's book, Holy Moments, I realized, the more we open ourselves up to holy moments, our desires and plans will begin to align with God's plan for us, thereby bringing us feelings of comfort and peace.

So what are holy moments??? Holy moments are opportunities we have to give up our self-interest and do what God is calling us to do. A few examples of holy moments are; expressing your gratitude to your partner, helping a sick neighbor take out the trash, spending one on one time with your child, running an errand for you parent, praying with your lonely grandparent, offering a listening ear to a friend who is grieving, or paying it forward at the coffee shop.

These holy moments will begin to open up the conversation between you and God. Additionally, these holy moments will also create feel-good feelings by increasing your serotonin, dopamine, and oxytocin!

Affirmations can assist with coping with the stress, grief, or sadness some may experience during this season.

Today marks the first day of Advent. We now begin to prepare for the coming (Nativity) of baby Jesus on Christmas!
During advent season, some individuals may suffer from "Advent Anxiety," due to additional stress. Some causes are
- Shopping sprees/gift purchasing.
- Extra spending.
-Family gatherings/dinner planning.
- Grief due to loss and/or unexpected changes.

If this is your situation, below you will find tips of things you can do to help alleviate "Advent Anxiety."
-Make a list of gifts that will be purchased and be open to online shopping to avoid crowds.
-Make a budget and try to stick to it.
-Ask for help with planning/organizing and delegate jobs.
-Remind yourself it is okay to be "sad in happiness" or "happy in sadness."

Most importantly, I invite you to make time to reflect on the true meaning of Advent and Christmas by praying for hope, love, joy, and peace.
