🌿 Holistic Health During Cold & Flu Season 🌿

As I sit in my cozy, warm home in my favorite chair, sick with a virus that is disrupting my life at this present moment, I thought it fitting to share the following.

I’m embracing ALL the things in my arsenal to feel better right now and thought you might need a few of these reminders yourself…

1. Mind-Body Connection: Practice meditation or yoga to reduce mental and physical stress.

2. Nutrition: Choose a balanced diet rich in antioxidants to boost immunity (lots of berries, nuts, citrus and veggies).

3. Stay hydrated by sipping bone broth, ginger/lemon tea with a dollop of local honey or your favorite electrolytes.

3. Emotional Well-Being: Give yourself permission to feel all the feelings for a short amount of time. Cry, scream, get angry,
be sad, get physical by punching a pillow etc., but only sit with these emotions for a bit. To help flip the switch, go for a short brisk walk, call a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while, clean out your fridge. You want to flip the switch that you are physically doing something instead of sitting in a burdensome emotion.

4. Spiritual Health: Connect with your beliefs through mindful practices, nature walks or a kind service for a neighbor or friend in need.

5. Social Connections: Foster relationships that provide support and encouragement. Call that friend you haven’t spoken to, write a letter to your son or daughter,
make a play date with your grandkids.

6. Physical Activity: Regular exercise boosts mood and strengthens defenses. Homebound…do simple stretches, go for a walk, and when you feel better grab a few friends and learn to play Pickleball.

7. Rest: Prioritize sleep and recovery for a robust immune system. Start your day with a little quiet time so you can just think. Take a nap midday. Go to bed an hour earlier and use that time to decompress by listening to soft music, reading your scriptures, listening to and repeating positive affirmations, finding a few mediations to participate in to get you into a deep meditative rest cycle so when do you fall asleep it puts you into the deep REM sleep that is so healing.

Holistic Remedies:
- Ginger & Honey: Soothes sore throats and boosts immunity.
- Garlic: Known for its antiviral properties; add it to meals for extra protection.
- Elderberry: Rich in antioxidants and can shorten the duration of colds.
- Turmeric: Its anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce symptoms.
- Peppermint Tea: Relieves congestion and promotes relaxation.
- Essential Oils are a beneficial and beautiful way to support your body, mind and spirit. I use them every day. If you have an ailment, sickness, emotional upset, I can find an oil for it! 😉

One often overlooked aspect of love is the quiet commitment to self-improvement.

This journey is not solely for personal gain; it also strengthens our relationships.

It's all too easy to say, “That’s just who I am,” hoping others will accept our flaws as fixed traits.

However, genuine love—deep and mature—expands beyond that.

It’s about recognizing our own wounds and patterns, taking ownership of our healing, and not placing that burden on those we love.

True partnership involves being attuned to the words that may cause pain or recognizing when old habits threaten new joy, and actively choosing to grow.

We deserve partners who don’t expect us to simply tolerate their shortcomings.

We need someone who is aware of how their actions influence us and who is genuinely willing to change—not out of obligation, but out of a sincere care for our well-being.

Love transcends grand gestures and sweet words; it often resides in accountability.

It is found in someone who reflects on their behavior and says, “I want to improve for myself, for you, for us.”

Always remember: you are worthy of a love that evolves.

1. Take a Deep Breath (Or Several)
We breathe all day, but intentional breathing can truly enhance our well-being. This practice calms the nervous system by delivering oxygen throughout the body. Remember, breath is a free tool available anytime, anywhere—why not utilize it?

2. Rethink Social Media
Constant scrolling rarely leads to happiness. If possible, consider removing apps temporarily or even permanently. For those needing to stay connected for work, set screen time limits and curate your feed—unfollow accounts that add stress.

3. Grab Your Journal
Journaling is a powerful way to reduce stress and gain mental clarity. It fosters self-awareness and gratitude, essential elements for building resilience and enhancing relationships while decreasing anxiety and depression.

4. Prioritize Rest
Rest is vital to our health. Adequate sleep not only lowers the risk of illness but also enhances mood and cognitive function. A good night’s sleep restores energy and prepares us to face challenges with resilience.
