At Larkin Community Hospital Palm Springs Campus, our Acute Rehabilitation rotation reflects the standard of excellence we expect in Physiatry. Here, rehabilitation is not simply performed it is engineered. Through advanced robotic assisted technology, our residents guide patients back to function with precision and purpose. These systems provide upright support for early standing and ambulation while delivering high repetition gait training that strengthens musculature, enhances bone density, optimizes circulation, and supports overall physiologic recovery.
More importantly, robotic rehabilitation drives neuroplasticity. By reinforcing correct movement patterns, we enable the brain to reorganize and relearn after spinal cord injuries, strokes, MS, and other neurologic conditions. This approach accelerates recovery timelines, decreases caregiver burden, and restores a sense of autonomy and psychological well being that is foundational to a patient’s quality of life.
This demonstration, led by our own PGY2 Dr. Andrew Herson, reflects the level of sophistication, intention, and clinical mastery that defines Physiatry at Larkin a place where innovation is not an accessory, but the expectation.
