This is so true! As you commit to changing your life, you will begin to learn who your true supporters are and who you can truly trust. This can be a difficult time as you learn people's true intentions. Remember, YOU can choose your friends and who you consider to be your family! Make sure you keep those supporters close.

Sometimes we’ll have a great couple of days…and then, BOOM, we have a day that SUCKS.

Maybe you made a lot of progress in staying present and grounded…and then suddenly you were on Neptune the entire day.

Maybe you’d gone for a WEEK without thinking about your substance or behavior of addiction…and then suddenly you were OBSESSED with it all day.

It happens.

Doesn’t mean your recovery’s doomed, or even off track. It just means you had a day.

No more; no less.

You’ve probably heard it said over and over and OVER again that “recovery is not linear”— and that’s true.

It’s steps forward and back; sprints and stumbles. To quote Tom Petty, some days are diamonds; some days are rocks.

Here’s the thing about recovery, though: we’re not ruled by the rocks OR the diamonds.

We are directed by our commitment to recovery.

That is to say: I can have a great day or I can have a sh*t day…but MY commitment to MY recovery stays the same.

Some days will be easier than others to keep that commitment— but either way it’s a done deal.

The Beast (my little nickname for the addictive or destructive urges) can try to seduce, to cajole, to persuade…but ultimately I am not going to help him out by Doing the Thing.

Some days are diamonds; some days are rocks.

But, as the saying goes, we’re gonna be okay in the end.

And if we’re not okay? Then it’s not the end.
