January 23rd is Ed Roberts Day. We honor a leader who proved that disability is not a limitation, but a call for access, respect, and equity.

Ed Roberts helped ignite the Independent Living Movement and pushed society to see disabled people as full participants in community life. His advocacy laid the groundwork for lasting change, including the creation of Centers for Independent Living and the fight for civil rights protections.

His legacy reminds us that independence means having choices, support, and a voice, and that progress happens when barriers are challenged, not accepted.
