Successful Accessible Deer Hunt Brings Community Together
Access North proudly hosted another successful Accessible Deer Hunt over the weekend, welcoming hunters, volunteers, and supporters to an unforgettable experience in the Minnesota outdoors. This annual event is designed to provide individuals with disabilities and veterans the opportunity to enjoy the tradition of deer hunting in a safe, supportive, and fully accessible environment.
Over one and a half days, participants were paired with a hunt mentor who provided guidance, support, and encouragement. Hunters had access to adaptive equipment, accessible blinds, and accommodations tailored to their individual needs. For many, this event offered not only the thrill of being in the woods, but also the freedom and independence that can be difficult to achieve in traditional hunting settings.
We had one deer harvest during the weekend, but the true victory was the connection between people, nature, and shared community spirit. Smiles, stories, laughter and good food filled camp areas as hunters bonded over early mornings, wildlife sightings, and the excitement of the chase.
Volunteers and sponsors played a crucial role—from preparing accessible hunting sites to providing meals, gear assistance, and transportation. Their involvement ensured that every participant was able to focus on the experience without barriers.
“We look forward to this event every year,” said one mentor. “Seeing the joy on the hunter’s face makes every minute worth it.”
As Access North continues celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year, our Accessible Deer Hunt serves as a powerful reminder that everyone deserves access to Minnesota’s natural opportunities—regardless of physical ability.
Thank you to all hunters, mentors, volunteers and sponsors who made this year’s event a meaningful success. We couldn't put this event on without you!!
