As you attend holiday gatherings, be an advocate for those without a voice. It’s never too early to teach consent. It’s as simple as not tickling after a child says, “stop!” (or not tickling at all) or asking politely for a hug and respecting the child’s answer. A child in a room full of relatives they see only a couple times a year can be frightening. Breaking old patterns within a family system can start with you. Be the advocate. Be the change. Make sure the holidays are safe for everyone in your family system.
