We continue to be hopeful that the FDA will shortly issue an Emergency Use Authorization for both the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. These vaccines appear to be highly effective and have shown very little in the way of side effects. As is common with many vaccines, some mild side effects may be experienced but have generally been limited to arm pain at the injection site, headache, muscle aches, fatigue, and chills. No major adverse reactions have been reported.
At this point we do not know how the vaccines will be distributed. We do not know if we will be giving the vaccine in our office or if it must be administered elsewhere. It does appear that front line health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities will be the first to receive the vaccines and then persons at high risk for severe COVID disease including the elderly and those with preexisting conditions will follow. We will make every effort to keep you informed as more information becomes available. We hope that all will take advantage of these potentially life saving vaccines.
Until then please continue to protect yourself and others by wearing masks when in public, washing your hands frequently, and avoiding unnecessary close contact with those outside of your household.
If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call our office. We continue to see patients both in the office and via teleheath as needed.
