Mark Marieb, MD is now seeing patients at Catawba Valley Cardiology!

Dr. Marieb completed his training in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Electrophysiology at Yale University and Yale New Haven Hospital. He was a founding partner of the Arrhythmia Center of Connecticut, where he practiced for 16 years, and later joined the full-time faculty at Yale University School of Medicine as Associate Professor of Medicine and Clinical Director of Electrophysiology at Yale New Haven Hospital.

Dr. Marieb also served as System Director of Electrophysiology Labs for the Hartford HealthCare Heart and Vascular Institute and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine.

Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Dr. Marieb is a Fellow of the Heart Rhythm Society (FHRS), Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of the American Heart Association (FAHA), and a Certified Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS). He is highly trained in all aspects of arrhythmia management and interventional cardiac electrophysiology.

After many years of caring for patients and serving our community, we are saying goodbye to Dr. Deji Okuboye of Catawba Valley Family Medicine – Taylorsville.

Dr. Okuboye joined the practice in 2008 and has been a valued part of our team ever since. Over the years, she has built meaningful relationships with patients and colleagues alike, always bringing compassion, dedication, and a warm smile to the clinic.

Our team recently celebrated Dr. Okuboye with shirts made in her honor, along with cake and gifts, as a small way to show our appreciation for the incredible impact she has had on our practice and the Taylorsville community.

Dr. Okuboye, thank you for the many years you’ve spent caring for our patients and supporting your teammates. We wish you all the best on your next adventure!

Giselle Blair, MD, is joining Catawba Valley Family Medicine – Claremont in April!

Dr. Giselle Blair is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with specialized training in complex diabetes and obesity medicine. She holds a BA in Neuroscience and Behavior from Mount Holyoke College, an MPH from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and an MD from St. George’s University School of Medicine. Dr. Blair completed a Diabetology fellowship at ECU Brody School of Medicine and holds a Culinary Coaching certificate from Harvard Medical School, combining medicine with nutrition and wellness. Outside of her practice, she enjoys experimenting with cuisines, connecting with loved ones, and traveling with her husband.

February is Heart Month, and Boni Killian-Cobb, FNP-C of Catawba Valley Family Medicine - North Hickory is here to talk about how she helps her patients with their heart health.

The heart conditions Boni helps her patients manage the most often are high blood pressure and high cholesterol. With the help of specialists, she also helps patients manage arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter, as well as early heart failure and heart valve problems.

Boni says, “Monitoring your heart health at home can help with catching issues early, along with trying to work on lifestyle conditions. It is important to take medications and follow recommendations on lifestyle changes.”

To improve overall heart health, Boni recommends that her patients make the following lifestyle modifications:
- Eating more whole foods and following a Mediterranean diet
- Staying active is important for at least 20 minutes a day (you can break up the minutes throughout the day if needed)
- Staying hydrated with water
- Getting quality sleep
- Working on stress management
