"My pet is too old for anesthesia" is something we hear a lot. Let's talk about it.

Age itself isn't a disease. Modern anesthesia is incredibly safe with proper protocols: pre-anesthetic bloodwork, IV fluids, monitoring throughout, and appropriate drug selection.

The question isn't "Is my pet too old?" It's "What's riskier: anesthesia or living with painful dental disease?"

Infected teeth hurt. Bacteria spread to organs. Quality of life suffers. Many senior pets feel years younger after dental treatment because they're finally pain-free.

We'll assess your senior pet individually and discuss the real risks and benefits.

Let's talk about your senior's dental health: (336) 889-3832

Did you know that 90% of pets have dental disease by age 3?*

And here's the tough part: they're hardwired to hide pain. You might not even know something's wrong until it's serious.

The good news? Regular cleanings help prevent problems before they start. And prevention is always less expensive than treatment.

Save $75 on a dental cleaning when you book by March 31!

Not all dental products are created equal. Here's what actually helps: ✓

VOHC-approved dental chews slow tartar buildup. Look for the Veterinary Oral Health Council seal. Water additives with proven ingredients can reduce bacteria. Prescription dental diets are designed with special kibble texture. Dental toys and treats provide mechanical cleaning.
What doesn't work well: Human toothpaste (toxic to pets). Hard objects like bones or antlers (they crack teeth). Products without VOHC approval or veterinary research backing them.

The most effective home care combines multiple approaches. But nothing replaces professional cleanings for removing tartar below the gum line.

Patient Spotlight!⭐️🐾

Meet “Luna” an 11 week old husky mix🐾

When little “Luna” first visited us, she was just a tiny bundle of white fluff, puppy wiggles and curiosity. In just 25 days since her last visit she has grown so much! She is such a wonderful reminder of how quickly these precious early weeks fly by.🩷🐾

From her first check-up to her recent appointment, Luna has grown not only in size but in strength and bravery, too!

Seeing our patients thrive is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do! We’re so proud of this sweet girl and grateful to be part of her journey as she grows into a happy, healthy dog. Keep shining, “Luna”! 🌟🐾

The love is real, and we see it every day. ❤️
We see it when you carry your senior dog in because their legs are tired. When you drive across town in a snowstorm for a sick pet appointment. When you ask "Is there anything else I can do?" because you want to give them the best care possible.
Your pets are lucky to have you. And we're lucky to partner with clients who care so deeply.
This month, give your pet the gift of good health. Whether that's a dental cleaning, an overdue wellness exam, or finally addressing that limp you've been worried about.
They can't make appointments for themselves. But you can.

Valentine's Day is sweet, but keep these things away from your pets! 🍫💐

Chocolate is toxic, even in small amounts. The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous.

Xylitol in sugar-free candy causes life-threatening drops in blood sugar. Lilies are deadly to cats, even the pollen. Roses have thorns that can injure mouths and paws. Ribbons and cellophane from gift wrap cause intestinal blockages.

Keep flowers up high and chocolates secured. Celebrate your pet with a pet-safe treat or extra playtime instead.

If your pet gets into something they shouldn't, call us at (336) 889-3832 or Poison Control at (888) 426-4435.

Dental disease doesn't stay in the mouth. 🫀 Here's why it matters so much:

Bacteria from infected gums enter the bloodstream every time your pet chews or swallows. These bacteria can lodge in the heart, causing valve damage and heart disease. They can affect the kidneys, leading to chronic kidney disease. The liver can also be impacted.

We regularly see bloodwork changes improve after dental cleanings. Heart murmurs sometimes get better when oral infections are treated. This isn't just about teeth looking nice. It's about preventing serious, life-threatening disease.

Investing in dental care now can prevent expensive health problems later.

Call us at (336) 889-3832 to book a dental exam!

You don't have to be perfect at home dental care. Something is better than nothing! 🪥

If you've never brushed your pet's teeth, start here:

- Week 1: Let them lick pet toothpaste off your finger. Get them used to the taste.
- Week 2: Rub the toothpaste on their front teeth with your finger. Just a few seconds.
- Week 3: Try a finger brush or gauze wrapped around your finger.
- Week 4: Introduce a pet toothbrush for short sessions.

Go at your pet's pace. Some never tolerate brushing, and that's okay. Dental chews, water additives, and special diets can help too.

The goal is progress, not perfection. We can demonstrate techniques during your next visit!
