Our thoughts can be overwhelming at times and can cause us to feel stressed, and anxious. Daisy the Hedgehog taught us that it can be easy to overthink and get stuck thinking unhelpful thoughts that may not be true. That’s why it’s important to take the time to pause and remember that thoughts are not facts and that we have the power to change them. Changing our thoughts can help us reduce our uncomfortable emotions, and navigate challenging situations better.

Encourage your elementary schooler to watch this video of kids talking about their emotions. Even better — watch it with your child and discuss these key findings together:

1️⃣ Thoughts are not always facts and are temporary.
2️⃣ Thoughts can be either helpful or unhelpful.
3️⃣ You can practice changing unhelpful thoughts to thoughts that are more realistic or helpful.

Vaccines, also called immunizations, are a safe and effective way to protect children from many common diseases. If parents delay or avoid child vaccinations, they can put their child—and others—at risk for potentially dangerous diseases.

Take a look at the answers to common vaccine questions from parents and if you still need more information, contact your pediatrician.

Anorexia nervosa, the most common eating disorder, is self-imposed starvation, usually by a young woman who is otherwise high-functioning. Personality types more likely to develop the disorder include athletes, perfectionists, and over-achievers. They are driven to maintain a dangerously low body weight because of a distorted self-image. Detecting anorexia can be very difficult because it typically affects high-performing kids.

Review this quick guide about Anorexia Nervosa. If you think your child may be anorexic, contact your child’s pediatrician when you first start noticing signs.

There are many steps involved to diagnose a food allergy. First, an allergist will take a careful history of what happened when you/your child ate the suspected food. Then skin, blood, or oral food challenge tests may be ordered to help confirm diagnosis. https://kidswithfoodallergies.org/living-with-food-allergies/new-food-allergy-diagnosis/what-food-allergy-tests-mean/
