Foundations Health Petersburg was excited to be part of a pop-up event at Pecan Acres. Partnering with other community agencies and leaders is key to helping meet our patients needs. Foundations Health Petersburg OTP knows that there are many challenges in early recovery. We are here to support our patients in getting their health and well-being needs met, and that includes helping with housing, transportation and payment options.

Black Balloon Day is observed each year on March 6th as a national day of remembrance for the countless lives lost to overdose. Communities across the country use this day to honor loved ones, raise awareness and continue the fight against stigma surrounding substance use disorders. On Friday, March 6th, Foundations Health – High Point participated in Black Balloon Day both within our facility and out in the community. Patients and staff posted Black Balloons with the names of loved ones lost to overdose, and we held a moment of silence at 6:15 A.M. to reflect, remember and honor their lives.

That afternoon, we also joined the community at the Black Balloon Day event hosted by the Enforcement Assisted Diversion (LEAD) team and the Guilford County Division of Public Health’s Drug and Injury Prevention Program at Labauer Park in Greensboro, NC, where we tabled and connected with attendees from 3:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M.

We are grateful for every person who showed up to remember, support and stand together. May today serve as a reminder of why our work matters and why we continue to advocate for compassion, treatment and hope.

🖤 We remember. We honor. We continue. 🖤

Housing is one of the key needs of people in early recovery. People who are struggling with opioid use disorder are often unhoused, which can prevent or delay entry to treatment and recovery. Adequate, safe housing is also associated with better engagement in treatment and therefore, creates the possibility for strong positive outcomes.

Foundations Health Petersburg is proud to partner with local housing providers and projects. Recently, we participated in an event co-sponsored by the Virginia Department of Health and Human Services and the Crater Health District to create and support partnerships that help meet our patients’ housing needs. Treating the whole person and their needs is key to what we do at Foundations Health Petersburg OTP.

Self-injury is often a sign of deep emotional pain — not attention-seeking behavior. Many individuals living with opioid use disorder have histories of trauma, depression or self-harm. Substance use can become another way to cope with overwhelming emotions.

In recovery, we help patients:
•Learn safer coping skills
•Process trauma
•Address depression and anxiety
•Rebuild self-worth
•Develop emotional regulation skills

Teens are struggling — and many are doing it silently. World Teen Mental Illness Day reminds us that depression, anxiety, trauma and substance use often begin during adolescence. Opioid use in adulthood may have begun as an attempt to manage pain from these types of issues during the teen years.

At Foundations Health, we know that:
•Mental health and substance use are deeply connected
•Trauma often precedes opioid misuse
•Early intervention saves lives
•Families need education and support too

If you or someone you know needs help, compassionate, evidence-based treatment is available. Learn more at https://bit.ly/4l7ilta
