Using herbalism and energy work as forms of activism against the inaccessibility of affordable healthcare and medications to many, the goal of Hedgewitch Holistics is to provide everyone who wants it with the tools, knowledge and encouragement you need to feel empowered to make the decisions that are right for you in regards to your health and well-being. And, if you desire, to build a better relationship with the plant allies around you. Like good quality food and clean water, I believe that everyone in my community should have access to natural wellness, so if you are a Detroit/Highland Park/Hamtramck resident, I offer alternative payment arrangements if cost is making my services or products inaccessible to you. Hedgewitch Holistics is committed to inclusivity, accessibility, anti-racism, creating brave & judgment-free spaces, the principles of Healing and Disability Justice, and doing my absolute best to honor and give back to the Highland Park/Detroit/Hamtramck communities of which I am a part and to the land (Waawiiyaatanong), stolen from the Anishinaabe people, on which I work and live.

Tonight marks the return of the pop-up apothecary and the return of after a four-year hiatus! Stop by the Hastings Ballroom stage to see what I’ve been up to since 2019. and I will be sharing the stage so you can buy our book, The Devil’s Death, along with all of the ritual tools and plant magic you need to navigate dying, care-giving, and grief in all its forms. Can’t wait to see you there! 🥰✨

I get a lot of questions about resources for classes, health practitioners, ordering plants, credible websites, books, etc. I usually refer people to the Community page of my website, which lists many of my favorite and most often used sources for all of these things, but I noticed some of the links were broken and many of the sources I’ve started using in the past few years hadn’t been added. So this week, I spent some time updating this page — making sure all of the links worked and adding many new resources. Take some time to check it out and inbox me if there are any additions you would like to see. 💚

It’s muggy and sticky and grey in Detroit today, a perfect day for a tulsi and lemon balm infusion. And it will be even better later, when I put some in the to make it sparkle and pour it over ice. 😋

Planning to eat these sun-soakin’ bulges in the shade every day until my wonky l’il 🍑 tree stops sharing her gifts this summer. 🥰 // Third pic is from a week ago and doesn’t do it any justice in showing how many peaches are on it. Not quite but I’m sure it’s close.

Next up for month is milky oats. This is another one of my absolute plants to take as a tincture. You can safely take it long-term for both physical and mental effects on the nervous system and adrenals. This is the same plant that gives us oat straw and oatmeal. The “milky” part comes from squeezing the oat “tops” or seeds when they’re fresh — they produce a milky like substance.
As with the rest of this month’s plants these are the only benefits of milky oats or the whole oat plant. If you have questions about other uses, feel free to inbox me.
Don’t forget to save this post so you have it when you need it. And please do shop the online apothecary if you can and support Black midwives! 20% of all sales go to ’ fund to complete the final piece of her midwifery training. You can also make donations directly to her fund through the apothecary link in bio without making a purchase. 💚🤗

Next up in our series of Plants for month is St. John's Wort. It's probably one of the most recognized plants for mental health because of the extensive scientific research that's been done on it and its common use around the world. But, it does SO MUCH more than that! In fact, it was hard to focus only on its actions related to mental health for this series because there are so many wonderful uses for it. If you want to learn about even more of the virtues of SJW, .craft has a virtual plant walk, Midsummer Medicines Vol. 1, available on his website (herbcraft.podia.com) that includes SJW along with many other plants.
Keep in mind that there are some contraindications with SJW, so consult with an herbalist or trusted healthcare professional before using it if those apply to you.
And, remember you can save 10% on your online apothecary purchases by using SPRING10 at checkout and 20% of all sales during the month of May will go toward midwifery training fund! SJW is available under "Simple Things: Plants M-L." You'll also notice that I marked a few things down that I currently have an abundance of so you can save even more on those. 🤗💚

Our next plant for month is another one of my faves (I told you I’d probably say that a lot…Tulsi! I love using this plant in many forms — tea, tincture, infused oil, hydrosol ( makes an amazing tulsi hydrosol, btw) — and I love having it around my yard for its incredible aromatic prowess on warm summer days. I dare you not to fall in love with tulsi. // Keep in mind that this series just focuses on some of the mental wellness aspects of these plants and not their full range of virtues. Remember to save the posts so you have them when you need them. And if there’s a particular plant you’re curious to know more about, drop it in the comments. // 20% of all sales go toward midwifery training fund during the month of May, so load up on some tulsi goodness while it’s in stock!

Next up in our series of plants for and to honor those celebrating is motherwort! // This one does have some possible contraindications and please keep in mind that I’m only focusing on the mental health aspects of plants in this series and not their full range of virtues. I’ll share some resources in the coming week where you can learn more about these plants and please consult with an herbalist or healthcare provider before using herbs with contraindications. //As a reminder, 20% of sales in the online apothecary will go to to help her complete her midwifery training. Our country NEEDS more Black midwives so please do stock up and support if you can! 💚💚💚

Our first plant in honor of month is one of my favorites — lemon balm! And to be honest, I’ll probably tell you that most of the plants we’ll talk about this month are “one of my favorites,” because I really really love the power of nervines (plants that affect the nervous system). Swipe to learn more about lemon balm and see a couple products in the online apothecary that feature lemon balm in their formulas. And feel free to add your favorite uses for lemon balm in relation to mental health in the comments below. This is by no means an exhaustive description! // Don’t forget to save the post so you can come back to it when you need it and then on post notifications so you don’t miss the next plant. 💚💚💚

Each year millions of people in the US struggle with their mental health. For some, it might look like dealing with the ups and downs of a chronic mental illness and for others it may be navigating the stress and anxiety of a temporary troubling situation. In recent years, many of us have become more comfortable with having open conversations about our own struggles with mental health. But, for many more, stigma still prevails. Although it may sound trite, remember that you are .

Join me during for a little series on some of my favorite plants – allies for mental health and wellness. I’ll share the first plant of our series tomorrow and oh what a delicious one it is! Be sure to turn on post notifications so you don’t miss a plant and save each post so you can easily refer back to them if you’re ever in need of a little plant magic. My goal is to post 2-3 per week throughout May. If you're curious about specific plants for mental health, drop them in the comments and I'll try to feature them in the series!

I’ll also share some resources for getting help with mental health so be on the lookout for those in future posts. And once again, if you are a resource or if you have any favorites that you’d like me to share, please let me know in the comments. 💚💚💚

Black birthing parents are dying at a rate of three to four times more than their white counterparts in the US. One of the ways we can work together to change this statistic is by supporting Black birth workers. This month, I will donate 20% of gross sales from the online apothecary to help fund final stretch of her midwifery training. If you aren’t already following Efe, go do that now. She’s sharing important information and education on birth, fertility, reproductive justice and more and making all of these things more accessible to people of color. Then, visit hedgewitchholistics.com/apothecary to stock up on your favorite HH products (use code SPRING10 to save 10%) or just make a straight donation to Efe’s fund. Together, we can make the stress of financing her training less of a burden so that Efe can continue focusing on the crucial work she is doing. 💚💚💚
