We’re thrilled to share some great news!

Our own Dr. Andrew Keenan was recently added to the University of Pennsylvania’s CBT-I Clinician Registry, joining a select group of providers recognized for their expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I).

He joins Dr. Drapkin and Jamie here at the CBT Center, making our team especially strong in helping people get back to healthy, restful sleep.

CBT-I is one of the most well-researched, structured, and effective treatments for insomnia. It helps people understand the habits, thoughts, and patterns that keep them awake and replace them with ones that support restorative rest.

At the CBT Center, we care about helping people suffer less, more efficiently, with clarity, structure, and compassion guiding every step.

Someone just added a few new credentials next to her name…

A huge congratulations to Dr. Michelle Drapkin! In addition to being Board-Certified with the Academy of Professional Psychologists, she has now met the rigorous standards of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A-CBT) and is officially recognized as a Certified Cognitive Therapist.

This is a well-deserved achievement that reflects her deep expertise, commitment to evidence-based care, and passion for making CBT truly effective for the people we serve.

The certification process isn’t easy. It involves an in-depth case write-up, a recorded session, and peer review. In short, it’s a reflection of both skill and heart.

We’re so proud of Dr. Drapkin and grateful to have such a talented, compassionate leader guiding our team! 💙

🍁🧡 Autumn is here — the air feels crisper, the days a little shorter, and the cozy sweaters are making their return. But for some, this season also brings a noticeable shift in mood.

As daylight fades, seasonal affective disorder (SAD) can appear, leading to changes in sleep, energy, motivation, or enjoyment. You’re not alone — about 1 in 20 people experience this each year. 🌥️

The good news? There are effective ways to feel better, including light therapy, vitamin D, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Reaching out for support can make all the difference. 🌿

This week we’re celebrating 5 wonderful years with Dr. Christina Contrastano at The CBT Center!
Since joining Dr. Drapkin in 2020, Christina has brought compassion, curiosity, and expertise to every session, supporting adolescents, adults, couples and families with evidence-based care and a big heart.
We’re so grateful for the warmth and wisdom she brings to our community every day. Here’s to five years and many more ahead (after her well-deserved maternity leave with adorable baby Charlotte)!

In honor of it being OCD week, let’s learn some information about it! Let’s break it down:
1. The cycle begins with an obsessive thought – this thought is usually unwanted which then causes a feeling of doubt or distress
2. Due to this unwanted thought, strong feelings of anxiety or distress can be triggered
3. These anxious feelings lead one to perform a compulsive behavior in order to relieve the anxiety
4. Performing the compulsive behavior leads to a temporary sense of relief
5. Once the intrusive thoughts return, the relief dissipates, and the cycle continues

Let’s walk through an example! Say an individual had this thought pop into their head, “What if I left the stove on and it causes a fire?”. To relieve anxiety, they may check the stove multiple times, even if they know it is off. The thought of leaving the stove on creates anxiety, which causes them to go back and check if the stove is on (the compulsive behavior). Seeing that the stove is off brings temporary relief, but the worry soon returns, restarting the vicious cycle. Before long, they’re stuck checking the stove over and over again, pulled away from the meaningful, values-based things they truly want to be doing. OCD robs you of both time and energy.

Feeling like you relate to this cycle? Join our free monthly OCD group led by Dr. Andrew Keenan. The CBT Center wants to spread awareness and support anyone who may be suffering 💙
