Day 56 post transplant:))

We had thought we’d only be going to the hospital on Tuesdays now but Audrey’s level of immunosuppressant drug, Tacrolimus, was high on Tuesday so they reduced her level and we went back today. Level was much better! It’s a tough balance of high enough that she doesn’t get GVHD (graft vs host disease) but not too high that it’s toxic to her kidneys. We were also a little concerned that her platelet count had gone from 275,000 last week to 186,000 on Tuesday (but both numbers are in normal range). I think maybe it was her bone marrow suppressed from the high Tacrolimus(?). Platelets were 174,000 today- so not much more of a drop. Pray her levels don’t drop more- the doctor we saw wasn’t concerned at all, so that’s good!!

Please continue to pray for our friend, Pike. He has had 2 rounds of the ECP but his GVHD in his gastrointestinal system is still really bad! He’ll continue the ECP treatments next week and hopefully start to see improvement! I know they want to go home so badly!

Audrey and I enjoyed a 7 Mile latte and hot cocoa on the porch by ourselves at 7 Mile in Lewisville:). Felt nice ;))

I wanted to share that our friend, Brandon Terwege, is participating in an Iron Man Race April 27, 2024 and he asked if he could raise money in honor of Audrey! Donations will go to aamds.org which is an organization that provides support, education and research for Aplastic Anemia/Myleodysplastic Syndrome and other related diseases.

Thank you so so much to National Charity League Inc., Legacy Highland Village Chapter and Marcus Marquettes for setting up a blood drive in honor of Audrey Gronberg!!!

I just didn’t realize before Audrey’s diagnosis how much blood donations are needed! Audrey would not be here today without multiple (so many) blood transfusions. Every time you donate, you are saving someone’s life! The number of blood donors in the US hit a 20 year all-time low in January- this is not ok. People need us!

Audrey had a great check-up yesterday! We’ve been home from the hospital since last Monday (1/22);)) Her last check in clinic was last Friday, so it was the longest stretch we had gone checking her counts in a while (Friday-Tuesday). So we were so excited to see good counts! Her platelets are up to 89,000! Dr said she is good to drive so she is enjoying some freedom just driving around the neighborhood:)) Her red blood cells/Hemoglobin were down just a little since Friday- but reds are the last to come up after transplant. She still feels really winded whenever she walks around/goes up stairs still, but once those red blood cells are up, that will get better:) We’re all enjoying this beautiful weather and praising God every day!! Thanks for your prayers!

Oh Happy Day!!!! Day +21

Audrey’s wbc went from .6 to 1.3 and her neutrophils went from .44 to 1.04!!!!! They won’t officially say she is engrafted until anc is over .5 for 3 days but pretty much the Dr. this morning said she was engrafted! :)). They will probably stop GCSF tomorrow and if she holds Sunday, we could go home Monday or Tuesday! Yesterday was so tough still not knowing and I felt like God was really wanting me to surrender and let my heart go to the place where I said I would love and trust him “truly no matter what” (which is downright impossible for any parent to utter/even let your mind go there). And stuck in my head was this song all night:

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of His glory and grace.❤️

So grateful for the counts this morning- Audrey was really embarrassed at my dance party at the news:) (Full on cabbage patch and running man around the hospital room;))
