Evolution of a Scar Revision:

This knee keloid demonstrates the long-term commitment and laser strategy often required for challenging scars.

Keloids are overgrowths of scar tissue that form when the body produces excess collagen during wound healing. They grow beyond the original injury site and can be thick, raised, red, and sometimes itchy or uncomfortable. Unlike normal scars, keloids can continue to expand months after trauma.

In this case:

"Hello friends at Alta Vista Dermatology!

I wanted to share my recovery photos from my Erbium procedure that was done on September 30th. I was frustrated with the lines around my mouth and had tried everything to get rid of them. During my research I saw that Erbium and Co2 lasers were the best options, so I made an appointment to have it done. Dr. Szabo told me to trust her and I absolutely did! Although my face looks like it would be horribly painful, it wasn’t. Having to hide in my house for two weeks while my face healed was the hardest part, although almost all of the home projects that have been put off for so long were finally done! It’s now been 6 weeks since the procedure was done and my skin is still healing and very pink. I have to wear makeup every day and it often wears off as the day progresses, but I’ve learned not to worry about it as much. I now know that it could take as long as 3 months or more until my skin fully heals and I don’t have to wear makeup, but I’m very happy to see that the lines around my mouth are disappearing as the new skin is rejuvenating. I had a BBL procedure last week to help with the pinkness and am using Elta MD green makeup to help hide the pinkness and provide maximum sunscreen. Overall what I learned in this process is patience and I’m so excited to finally have the lines around my mouth disappear!"
