Sensory Savvy Kids Relationship-based therapy services: sensory processing, emotional regulation, and child neurodevelopment

10/29/2025

Want to know one of the simplest, most powerful tools in parenting?

👉 Catch your child being good.

Research from Yale psychologist Alan Kazdin shows that noticing and naming positive behavior — even tiny moments — shapes kids’ brains far more effectively than focusing on what they’re doing wrong.

Instead of: “Stop interrupting.”
Try: “I really like how you waited until I finished talking.”

Every time you name what’s going right, you strengthen the connection and increase the chances your child will do it again. 💛

🌎 What Is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy helps people of all ages participate fully in the activities (“occupations”) that make up everyday life — from playing, learning, and moving, to socializing and self-care.

At Sensory Savvy Kids, OT means understanding each child’s unique sensory and motor needs so they can feel safe, confident, and connected in their world. Through play-based, sensory-integrative therapy, we help children:
• Regulate their nervous systems 🌈
• Build body awareness and motor coordination 🧠
• Strengthen attention, emotional control, and independence 💪
• Develop the foundation skills needed for learning and daily routines ✨

Our goal is to empower kids (and their families) to thrive — not just in therapy, but in every part of life.

This summit lineup 🔥

One of my favorite things is getting to be a part of conferences that are *completely free* if you show up day-of!

This page started out of a strong desire to provide totally free and accessible-to-everybody resources because I hate how much of healthcare is so paywalled and so inaccessible in sooooo many places. Every time I get to be a part of one of these conferences, it feels like it’s so in line with what I care about.

This one is dear to my heart too because it’s a part of ClimbRx and I’m one of the early co-founding therapists over there. 😊 They have a similar mission to make allied health fields (speech, physical, occupational therapy) more accessible and provide a supportive community for helping parents raise neurodivergent kids in neuroaffirming ways. Their conference has literally like every big-name social media therapist speaking at it and it’s all about the Sensory Journey.

Please grab a free ticket and come see me there!

[Image description: A promotional picture with the ClimbRx "Sensory Journey Summit: A Neuroaffirming Roadmap to Skill-Building" conference title. It says that it's a Free Online Event on January 12-14 2026 (holy cow it's about to be 2026 isn't it?) There are fifteen speakers' faces on the image as well and I'm not great at names/faces so going to embarrass myself if I try to name literally all of them, but here are a few: Mr. Chazz, Kelly Mahler, Ross Greene, Greg Santucci, and me! You can find the whole rest of the lineup on the site though! End description.]

At Sensory Savvy Kids, we teach two approaches to regulation — strategies that help kids in the moment and supports that build skills over time. 💜

We focus on both proactive and in-the-moment tools — what we call Top-Down and Bottom-Up approaches to regulation. 🌈

⬆️ Bottom-Up = Body First
Sensory-based coregulation tools that help calm the nervous system through movement, deep pressure, rhythm, and play — helping the body feel safe and grounded.

⬇️ Top-Down = Brain Next
These strategies focus on improving a child’s processing, attention, and ability to respond with controlled actions by implementing intentional supportive interventions.

Together, these two approaches create the bridge from co-regulation → self-regulation.

🌟 Want to learn more about this framework and see it in action?

Come see us this Saturday, October 25th from 9:30–12:30 at our Sensory Savvy Kids Open House in Hilliard! ☕🎈

We’ll have sensory play, coffee, and free screenings for families who want to learn more about supporting regulation and sensory processing.

✨ Regulation starts with connection.

At Sensory Savvy Kids, we use sensory input as the language of the nervous system — movement that organizes, deep pressure that grounds, and play that reconnects body and brain. These sensory experiences help children find balance in their arousal, supporting attention, emotional control, and confidence in how their body moves through the world.

But sensory input alone isn’t enough — it’s the connection with another person that helps the nervous system truly settle. When a child feels seen, safe, and understood in the presence of a calm, attuned adult, their body learns that it can come back to safety. That’s co-regulation — the bridge between sensory experience and emotional security.

Over time, those repeated moments of shared calm become something a child can access on their own. The external regulation becomes internal — that’s self-regulation. 💜

Because regulation doesn’t begin with independence — it begins with relationship. ☺️
