We are in the business of mending the broken spaces. This year there have been many moments whether it’s staff struggling with their own trauma, health crisis affecting key providers, residents on the ICU and then bouncing back each day brings forth new challenges and creates the opportunity to mend those broken spaces one at a time. I am grateful for all those who supported the secret santa and shoe party for helping us create a positive Christmas memory that will convey the love of a holy God. I am personally grateful for Gods promises of peace abd resolution. This year residents will be blessed with 958 gifts thanks to so many caring people. A special thanks to Ashley Turner and Jenna Doyle for their dedication and hardwork that made this Christmas happen for so many others.

Yesterday we held our 35th annual shoe party for the residents. It is with tremendous gratitude for the help from FLORIDA ASSISTED LIVING ASSOCIATION through its EMILY'S ANGELS program we were able to help restore some dignity to our residents with the gift of a $40 pair of shoes. We had pizza and homemade cake and an opportunity to share the true gift of Christmas with so many of our residents. Thank you to our facility manager Jenna Doyle for help arrange the function with our team, they are making a tremendous difference in the lives of these Americans. The smiles tell us what we need to know, goodness rise from the gifts of those around us.

COVID19 UPDATE - we have detected a rise in COVID cases. We have a scheduled COVID19 clinic scheduled for residents and staff who wish to get a vaccine. We are monitoring the population and staff with the home tests we have and will continue to monitor for new cases. After 5 days the virus does not typically replicate easily. If you are not well and having symptoms, be sure to avoid contact with others and do not enter the facility. We know adults with sc**zophrenia like those with dementia had a death rate of 3.8 times the average population. It is important for everyone to stay safe while a surge is underway - most surges will last six weeks.

The CDC upgraded wastewater activity for COVID-19 from "low" to "moderate" amid the "Stratus" variant surge.

We are grateful for the many people who help make this land mark legislation a reality. I am convinced had this screening requirement been in place in 2022, Emily would still be sharing her smile and giggles with us. How we miss our precious daughter.

Covid-19 Variant Nimbus Dominant in US as Vaccine Access in Flux
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that the new COVID-19 variant Nimbus, NB.1.8.1, now ranks as the most common strain in the United States, reports Bloomberg. The variant accounts for 13 percent to 68 percent of the circulating strains, with Nimbus accounting for up to 43 percent of U.S. cases for the two-week period ending June 21. While many of the symptoms from the new strain are similar to other strains, some patients have said they felt scratchiness like "razor blades in the throat."

We are grateful for Gov Ron DeSantis signing HB 1421 - EMILY ADKINS FAMILY PROTECTION ACT into law. This landmark legislation makes Florida to enact comprehensive requirements for screening, early detection, staff training and the development of a data registry. We are grateful beyond words for the hard work of Rep Dean Black and Sen Clay Yarbrough as well as Leslie Lake from and Dr Ali Atyas (Blood Clot Workgroup Chairman). Emily would have been pleased that life saving measure were taken in her home state of Florida. We pray that other families will not have an empty seat at their table this holiday and that we reduce the preventable deaths from pulmonary embolisms and DVTs.
