The true heart of Harmony Trace has always been— and always will be—-our People

Our Staff- who put their hearts into this work.

Our Families- who trust us with those which matter most.

And, our Residents- who teach us, inspire us and remind us every day why we’re here.

We’ve shared tears and laughter, challenges and triumphs, somber moments and joyful ones. Through it all, we’ve built something rare- a place where everyone who walks through our doors becomes part of the Harmony Trace Family.

For 31 years, Milagros, “Mila” has been a steadfast presence at National Church Residences, touching the lives of countless residents and colleagues with her warmth, dedication and compassionate care. Her journey is one of resilience purpose, and a deep commitment to the mission of serving seniors.

Due to budget cuts, her original plan of pursuing teaching was changed. A discussion with her husband, one which would mark the beginning of a lifelong calling, lead Mila on a pathway to explore her growing interest in caregiving.

Mila was hired my National Church Residences and went on the take and pass the State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) course. Her first location was an independent building, Terrace View. While there, Mila connected right away with the residents. Mila found not just caregiving, but building relationships, listening and truly being present with the people. It became “a mission and passion- to make a difference in their lives.”

After transferring and working at First Community Village for a number of years, staffing hours were changing which is when Mila discovered Traditions at Mill Run—now known as Harmony Trace. Her first impression was immediate: she loved it. The clean, welcoming environment, and friendly atmosphere made her feel at home. She soon began shifts in Memory Care, where she formed even deeper bonds with residence who needed both physical and cognitive support. This work required even more patience, empathy, and a strong heart.— all of which Mila had in abundance.

Why has she chosen to stay? Because this was more than a job — it was a family. “The residents invested in me, and I invested in them. We care for each other.”

Mila speaks fondly of her coworkers— a dedicated, hard-working team, all striving to provide the best care possible. Together, they created a sense of home and belonging.

Mila’s journey began with National Church Residences and eventually led you to Harmony Trace. No matter where Mila’s steps were in our organization, they have led with compassion and love and have brought you right into the heart of the Harmony Trace Family. We thank you Mila and love you.

Jinger has been at our building every one of the 30 years. Her footsteps have been woven into the very rhythm of this community since the first day the doors opened. She’s seen faces come and go, seasons change and stories unfold—- through it all, her heart has never wavered and has been poured into every resident she’s had the privilege to care for.

A work ethic that is unmatched- she does things the right way, every time. No shortcuts, no excuses- just consistent, quality care grounded in love and integrity.
Jinger stays late if someone needs help, picks up extra shifts without hesitation, buys extra holiday gifts so no Resident goes without and has stayed overnight several times, if the weather may not be favorable the next morning to get to work.

Through each day of this professional journey , Jinger has had the support of a wonderful family- her partner and daughter.
More recently, she also feels the love from her granddaughter and son-in-law.

This is more than a milestone. It’s a reflection of who Jinger is- steadfast, selfless, and completely devoted to the people around her. She has never treated this as a job—it’s been treated as a calling and every resident has been cared for has felt the love Jinger has brought each day.

We thank you and love you Jinger!

30 Years of Excellence and Beyond: Continue with us as we share some of our history from the years leading up to present day….

We continued investing in the future during 2019-2020 by renovating many of our apartments and shared areas to improve daily life for Residents, Families and Staff alike.

Then, in 2020, we took another meaningful step forward by adopting a new name: Harmony Trace, National Church Residences. “Harmony” reflects how we walk with Residents and Families in sync—supporting them in each unique journey. “Trace “ means pathway—a symbol of steps we take together, side by side.

Throughout this journey, we’ve been blessed with exceptional leadership from our four CEO’ s since 1961—from our founder, John Glenn, to Tom Slemmer,, Mark Ricketts and now, Susan DiMiickele. Their foresight, commitment and steady hands have kept our mission strong.

2014 brought a deeply personal act of generosity and love which added something truly beautiful to our home. Pete Trombetti, wanting to honor his late wife, Maggie O’Grady Trombetti, partnered with our Team to create our Tranquility Garden. Built by 100% donations and community support. Volunteering their time: a landscape architect, cement company, lighting experts, hardware store, a local nursery and much, much more — this garden became a sensory- rich sanctuary. During the isolation of COVID, it was truly a saving grace. And today, it remains a place of peace, joy, connection, purpose and dignity.

At our Celebration, we gave a special shout out to Oakland Nursery. This local company, third generation owned and operated by the Reiner Family. John Reiner is President and married to Sheila Reiner. Sheila’s mother Anna Ruth, lived with us at the time. When they heard of this project, Oakland Nursery donated, and planted, thousands of dollars worth of trees, plants, bushes, perennials, etc…

We sincerely thank, and will be forever grateful to, the Reiner’s and Oakland Nursery, along with Pete Trombetti and the O’Grady Family and all the other Contributors who opened their hearts, time and donations to such a worthwhile and everlasting gift.

30 Years of Excellence and Beyond: Continue with us as we share some of our history from the years leading up to present day….

In early 2000’s, a key chapter began with the leadership of Connie Mancuso, our Executive Director. Under her visionary guidance, we became a model of innovation
and compassionate care - here in our community and beyond.

Some of the standout initiatives we’ve pioneered include:

* The introduction of Neighborhood Coordinators
* A shift toward Person-Centered
* Being among the first two facilities in Ohio accepted into the Medicaid Waiver Program
* Creating new roles, such a Memory Care Coordinator and Medication Aide
* Launching Living Moments Education and Training
* Empowering our Staff to grow and become Certified Dementia Practitioners.

Most recently, we’re proud to partner with Corporate as we roll out PAC—Teepa Snow’s,
Positive Approach to Care- across the company. This focuses on the significance of connection, empathy, and person-centered care by educating caregivers and organizations on, not only treating, but understanding the stages of brain degeneration.

Over the years, some programs have changed- as they should. But, we’ve always carried the best parts forward, refining and evolving with each step so we can give quality care.

A major milestone came in 2009 to 2011, a $3.5 million expansion. First floor expanded their dining and activity spaces, along with adding a chapel and some additional apartments. The memory care moved to second floor and nearly doubled our capacity. We didn’t just build rooms.-we created a neighborhood-spaces designed to stir memories, stimulate the senses and encourage engagement. They became places filled with movement, laughter, calm and purpose.

When you think about it, every step taken here has told a story. Some have been quick and light— bringing laughter to a resident. Others have been steady and strong.— offering comfort in a time of need. And, some have been side-by-side.— walking with a colleague, a Resident or family member through life’s ups and downs.

One of our honored individuals has made Harmony Trace feel like a community, nearly all of its 30 years. He has lived here since 1997, now the longest-term resident. Everyone who comes here knows and loves this special man. He is part of us.

By the year 2000, we began to see a growing need for specialized support for memory care services. In response, our third floor was carefully converted into a secure environment designed to provide safety, structure, and comfort for individuals facing the unique challenge of memory impairment.

💜We Walk, In Honor, In Memory, and to Defeat ALZ💜

Our team of dedicated caregivers and staff walk the walk every day by representing the mission of caring for the individuals and families affected by Dementia. We could not be prouder of the quality care and programing we provide here at Harmony Trace. This week we got to take that mission to the Alzheimer's Association, Central Ohio Chapter, Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We are so proud of the fundraising efforts of our community. National Church Residences Harmony Trace will continue to care, honor, and fight for a future without ALZ!
