🏥 First 48 Hours: What to Expect at Mill Run (Optalis)
📍 Arrival & Settling In
Peaceful transition: When you first arrive, you’ll be shown to your room and given time to settle in, unpack, and get familiar with the environment.
Meet the staff: A nurse and a nursing assistant will visit soon after arrival to greet you, answer questions, and help you feel comfortable.
📝 Day One: Initial Assessments & Paperwork
Clinical assessment: A nurse reviews your medical history from the hospital, checks your medications, and completes a health assessment to understand your current needs.
Goal discussion: You’ll be asked about your personal goals for therapy—what you want to achieve during rehab.
Admissions paperwork: Staff will complete any remaining admission documents and review billing/insurance details with you or your representative.
Dining and preferences: A dining service representative may visit to talk about your meal preferences, diet needs, and any allergies.
Social services planning: A social worker might discuss discharge planning and your support at home when you’re ready to leave.
📋 Day Two: Therapy Begins
Therapy evaluations: On the second day (or soon after), therapists will do your initial therapy assessments:
Physical Therapy (PT)
Occupational Therapy (OT)
Speech Therapy (if needed)
These evaluations assess your current abilities and help build your rehabilitation plan.
Goal setting with therapists: Your therapy team will set personalized goals with you.
👨👩👧 Interdisciplinary Conference and Communication
Team coordination: An interdisciplinary care conference may be scheduled, often including family, to review your goals and care plan with the full team — nursing, therapy, social services, and physicians.
🛌 Routine Starts to Form
By the end of the first 48 hours:
You’ll likely have started therapy sessions or be scheduled for them regularly.
You’ll have met key members of your care team.
Hospital medical information will have been reviewed and organized.
A personalized plan for your therapy and overall care will be underw
