They say it's going to rain today..... like real rain, just not scattered hit and miss showers.

There is the possibility of heavy rains with some of the storms. With that can come the potential for flash flooding. Hard to believe that there could be flooding with as dry as its been around here. Below is an explanation of how this can occur.

🔸️Be alert for the chance of heavy rains throughout the day and Into the overnight hours🔸️

▪️▪️️ Flash flooding during drought? ▪️▪️

Flash flooding can occur more easily with less water during periods of drought than non drought conditions. The best defense against flash flooding is the soils ability to absorb water through soil percolation. In non drought seasons the soils are soft, worms are near the surface and water percolation occurs easily.

This is not the case in drought. Our soils become very hard and crusted. This doesn't allow water to enter the soil as easily until thay crust has been broken down and softened. When water falls at a heavy rate it has nowhere to go as the crust acts like a roof/concrete. Water begins to pond and flash flooding begins.

This will be a concern Saturday with the possibility of heavy rains! Especially across our general area later where 2"+ of rainfall may occur!
