Breast Cancer Myth Busted!

❌ Myth: “Only women with a family history can get breast cancer.”
✅ Fact: Most people diagnosed with breast cancer have no family history of the disease.

While genetics can play a role, lifestyle factors, age, and environmental exposures also contribute.

Regular screenings, knowing your body, and healthy habits are key for everyone — regardless of family history.

At Highland Health Providers, we proudly stand with the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers and support both Senate Bill 198 and House Bill 276 — together known as the Ohio 340B Pharmacy Access Act.

This important legislation helps safeguard the 340B Drug Pricing Program, which allows community health centers to purchase medications at significantly reduced prices and then reinvest those savings directly into patient-care services.

Because of programs like this, HHP can continue to keep care local and accessible—offering affordable medications, transportation support, and expanded services to our region.

We believe these bills matter because they protect what we do every day: serve our community, reduce barriers to care, and ensure that no one is left behind.

Highland Health Providers is excited to announce the upcoming opening of Leesburg Family Medicine, a new location dedicated to expanding access to high-quality care for students, staff, and families in the Fairfield Local School District, Leesburg and surrounding communities.

By bringing primary care services directly to the school campus, we’re removing barriers to healthcare — helping kids stay healthy, stay in school, and succeed. 🩺

Services will include:

Taking just a few minutes each month for a self-exam can make a big difference. Knowing what’s normal for your body is key to early detection.

Here’s how to perform a simple breast self-exam:
1️⃣ Look — Stand in front of a mirror with your arms at your sides, then raise them. Look for changes in size, shape, or skin texture.
2️⃣ Feel — Use the pads of your fingers to gently check for lumps or thickened areas. Be sure to cover the entire breast area, including under the arms.
3️⃣ Compare — Check both sides. What’s normal for you might not be for someone else—so trust your own baseline.
4️⃣ Be Consistent — Do your exam at the same time each month, ideally a few days after your period, when breasts are least tender.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let’s commit to self-care, early detection, and supporting one another.
